contiguous to Brown county. On. the
visits planned by the collectors' they
will render free assistance to 'indi-
vidual income tax payers in the prep-.
oration of their income returns.
The collectors will be in Browr;-
wopd February 23 to 28 and agiti:(

being the last day on which income

A meeting of more than usual im-
portance to the people of Brownwood
will be held on the night of February
4th'i which is next Friday night at the
First Baptist church for the purpose
of Jjdiscussing health conditions of this
city. According to the official pro-
gram which was announced at the
various churches' of Brownwood Sun-
day. Dr. M. M. Carrick State Health
officer of Austin and. Dr. A. C Scott
of! Temple will deliver short addresses
germane to the subject No collection
of j any character will be taken and
the meeting is no sense for the pur-
nose of raising funds. Its character
is ieducational and matters pertaining
to1 the health of sanitary progress of
Brpwnwood will be presented and dis-
cussed from various angles. It is
especially urged that every citizen of
Briownwood who has. the welfare of
thji; city at lieart to attend this im-
portant meeting at the First Baptist
church next Friday night The follow-

Committee Appointed By
State Fire Association
IMeets in Dallas Feb. 2nd

Fire Chief W D. McCulley will
leave for Dallas tomorrow in order
to attend a meeting of the committee
appointed by the State Five Associa
'transportation for the members of the
fire fighting forces of the state. It
will.be calVed to mind that during the
war when the government took over
the nearitne control or tne railroads or 'the
country all passes were canceled. The
object of the committee meeting is to
-adqpt' some plan whereby the old-
time transportation facilities to fire-
rnn inay be restored. Mr. McCulley
says the officials of the railroad com-
mission of Texas will meet in Dallas
Thursday and as the fire committee
will be there at that .time the trans-
portation question will be brought to
the attention of commission officials.
Rats Are Costing Brown
County $1000 Every Day
Killing Campaign to Start
A county-wide rat campaign is now
being talked in different localities and
within the next few days it is be
lieved definite plans will have been
evolved and outlines of the big fight
soon to start given to the public. At
the same time definite instructions
will be issued and territory designat

yard in Brown county may be cover-
ed. It has been figured that it is now
actually costing the people of Brown
county $1000 per day to feed the
rats. This is $30000 per month or
$360000 per year and as a matter of
