THE CASMXG CLUB GIRLS
One of the most Interesting of the
-various exhibits of the Coleman Coun-
ty Fair -will be that of the canning
.club girls. These girls working with
their energetic demonstrator. Miss
Ethel Hale have labored under dif
ficulties this dry year but their prod
ucts will be worth going miles to see
. Few people appreciate the magni-
tude and importance of the education
al -work being done among the girls
and boys on the farms of the South
Few realize the far-reaching results
of this work and its effects on the
future homes of the land. There are
47749 girls engaged In the club work
There are
prob
lems; 10205 girls are learning more
ot poultry raising; 3721 are devot-
jkg special attention to bread-making;
.and S5S are enrolled in other work.
The far-reaching effects which the
information gained by the girls en-
gaged in this work will exert during
years to come on the farm homes
of the South can scarcely be overesti-
mated. And Coleman county will have
contributed its share toward the cani-
iJgn 6f education. Coleman Democrat-Voice.

32965 girls studying canning
of real importance and cannot bo too
strongly emphasized.
Moreover the governor must be un-
derstood as meaning precisely what
he says when he urges that $1. contri-
butions be sent in declaring that they
will be as welcome as larger contri-
butions. This is the idea behind the
plan of campaign in. . Hale county
where they are collecting "a dollar
from every Democrat." If the plan
were adopted generally it would mean
more than a mere display of party loy-
alty. It would be more genuinely
Democratic and make the fund more
of a party affair than it possibly could
be were the financial enfi of the cam-
paign taken care of by a few men. Wo
all are opposed to a cqndition that
would tempt large contributions from
a few especially from those repre
senting big interests and the "dollar
from every Democrat" Idea would in-
sure against the possibility of such a
thing.
Let every Democrat take this matter
to heart and get behind the campaign
without delay. Give all you can and
if you can't give more; be sure at least
to send in your dollar. Fort Worth

The Bulletin says it is the plan of
of the Brownwood Chamber of Com
merce to devote practically all the
time of the organization during the
next twelve months .to; good roads and
to the movement to get a part pf the
government appropriation for high
ways. We are expecting the same of
the Coleman organization. The coun-
ty that neglects road ;building in the
future will soon find itself ai the tail
end of the procession. Colnm.m

A TEX. CEXT LOAF
Owing to the expectation of .a short
srlieat crop this season and a rise in
tie-price of the staple some alarmed
housewives . have supposed that the
bakers' proposition of a 10-cent loaf of
fccead involved what would be little
more "than a 5-cent loaf for 10 cents.
Xtominally. at least it is proposed to
j&akq one loaf of a weight equal to
two five. cent loaves this it is claim-
ed becing a material saving of labor.
"Such a saving for the baker would
fcowever mean Inconvenience and
seme loss for the housewife even with
fall weight assured owing to drying
jM&d wasting in the case of a large loaf
that must be cut but can not be
promptly used up.
Tew housewives- are likely to wel-
come a 10-cent loaf even if nothing be
lost in weight and apparently there
is nothing in the wheat crop condi-
tions to justify the bakers in making

Seed Canning Clubs
To the Bulletin:
A well known local grocer at the
request of a party interested in the
girls canning club movement looked
over ins sneives the other morning
arid foutttff -Corn canned in Mary
land Illinois and Ohio; peas from
Illinois and Indiana; tomatoes from
Maryland Pennsylvania and New
York; beans from Indiana. New Jer
sey and Massachusetts; okra from
Louisiana; sweet potatoes from Mis-
sissippi; asparagus from California
and Illinois; pumpkin from Illinois;
pimentos from Spain; and oh ye cows
on the rich ranges of great Texas
condensed milk from New York.
And these articles will appear on
the tables of our Brown county farm
er's bought from these self-same gro
cery shelves although all through the
summer they have been marketed " on
streets of Brownwood from the backs
of dusty farm wagons at any old price.
A truck fanner near Bangs recently
at the request of . the. same party
roughly estimated the difference in
price of the product of his two acres
of sweet potatoes sold at $1.00 per
bushel and the" same crop marketed
in tin cans at the wholesale price
paid by our local merchants for can-
ned sweet potatoes.
This farmer Is now In the market
for one of the very practical home
canncrs that are on the market and
opines that he has grasped a mortgage
lifting idea:
Texas is boarding boarding with
the older states; and she needs bad-
ly needs to go to housekeeping. .
