With two compresses in Brownwood next season this ought
5to become a'great cotton concentrating- point and. it will.
t
The park has been dedicated and will be cared for. Now
or-the hospital and in this the help of every citizen will be
.?iieeded.
If Waco will but get right seriously behind the Cotton Belt it
can shove that road out towards Brownwood. And BrOwnwocd .
-will pull from this end of the line.
There is no reason why Brownwood should not keep cool
-next season. The town will be well supplied with ice factories
jbottling plants and an ice cream manufacturing plant
Brownwood is particularly fortunate in having several good
machine shops and those familiar with the work they do say it
iis not surpassed anywhere. These shops not only do work for
33rown wood and this county but for .a. large surrounding terri-
tory. The flour milling interests of Brownwood are important in-
dustries that get a great deal of trade for Brownwood and that-
cause many people to come here for great distances to do busi-
ness. When you come to think about it Brownwood is already
pretty well started towards becoming a good manufacturing
town.
Whenever you go visiting sing the praises of your home
town. Tell the people in whatever way you can what a good
town and country we have here and especially tell of the favor-
able opportunities for investment. Brownwood owes much to
those citizens who have for years been faithfully telling the
world of this country. Keep it up. . v
The Brownwood band is deserving of especial mention. The
Bulletin man was surprised at the class of music rendered Friday
at the park and at the able manner in which it was played under
the direction of Mr. Lowery the director. A town nqeds good
band music on many occasions and a band greatly enlivens a
place. Brownwood need not be a bit ashamed of this band
wherever it may go and ought to encourage it in every way
possible. Besides being a good band it is composed of good fel-
lows who are as clever personally as they are in their music.
The Bulletin is of the opinion that there can not be found
in "all Texas a better city council than the one that looks after
the welfare of Brownwood. In fact it is a remarkable body of
. men from every standpoint and such a council as few towns
ever have. People generally hurl criticisms at the city fathers
but the Bulletin has nothing but bouquets for this body of men
who will compare favorably with any legislative body to be found
anywhere. The work that they have done and are doing for the
city is the broadest and the best. They are laying the foundation
for thejgreat city they know Brownwood is destined to become.
It looks now like both the colleges will have dormitories for
the girls under construction before the summer is over. Rev.
G. W. McCall is back of the movement for securing one f or
Howard Payne and what he tries to do is'usually accomplished.
It looks like from the beginning made by Rev. Gaines Hall that
he will also have pretty even sailing for the Daniel Baker dormi-
tory. With two college dormitories under way a hospital in
course of erection a parkjundergoing improvement the Presby-
terian and Methodist churches being rebuilt and hundreds of
trees being planted on the streets Brownwood is right in an era
of public improvements that will make a wonderful change in
the looks of the city.

By a comparison of prices for real estate-in "Brownwood with
those of other towns of the same size it will be seen that Brown-
wood realty has never sold at the fancy prices that prevail inj
some places. Thereis hardly an offering of property here now
that is not at the price a first class and safe investment. Brown-
wood has never had a boom. s

Came Near Having a Terrible Wreck
But Saw the Burned Bridge in Time
to Stop the Train.
A Santa Fe bridge fifty feet
in length one mile this side of
Santa Anna was burned down
some time in the latter part of
the night last night and a long
train of cattle had a very narrow
escape this morning. The pas-
senger train which leaves here
at nine thirty at night going
west passed over the bridge and
everything was well but in the
early morning a long train of
cattle from San Angelo came
down and succeeded in stopping
their engine just in timeto avoid
a terrible wreck. It was dis-
covered that the bridge had been
entirely burned away since the
passenger train had crossed it.
How the fire originated is a mys-
tery unless irom tne engine
which last passed over it. Sev-
eral section gangs were hurried
to the scene and the 'bridge was
replaced by noon. Traffic was
tied up until that time and the
train of cattle were standing on
the track just the other side of
the burned bridge unable to back
up the steep grade into Santa
Anna.

"What are you looking at so

"I am looking at your face

girl with perfect candor.
"Well do you think that it is
a nice face?" queried grandma
smilingly. $
