at first but it will come just as sure
as the sun will rise again.

The fear entertained by many Okla-
homans and persons living in other
states that Crazy Snake chief and
leader of the Snake Indians might
be able to induce other Oklahoma
tribes to come to his rescue and there-
by resist all attempts of arrest seem
now to have vanished. Chief Quanah
Parker of the Comanches was inter-
viewed regarding the Snake uprising.
He expressed a sincere regret that
any of the red men of Oklahoma
should go on the warpath again.
"When I laid "down my arms years
ago I laid them down for all time to
come" said the half American Com-
anche chieftain. . . "During the last
raid of Klowas in 1SS7 had the Com-
anches joined them" said an Indian
official of that tribe "there would have
been few whites left in their trail.
However there is little danger of the
Southwestern Oklahoma tribes ever
giving any more trouble."
Cal Huffman assistant manager of
the West Texas Coal Mining & Devel-
opment Company whose operations
are being confined to Coleman and
Brown counties is in the city for a
few days. He is superintending the
development of the-'oil and coal fields
in the vicinity of Holloway Mountains.
Cal recently bought for the company
the mining rights on one thousand
acres for forty-nine years paying $5
per acre and he will continue his
search for oil and coal.
The West Texas Coal Mining & De-
velopment Company now controls
about fifteen thousand acres in Cole-
man and Brown counties and is ar-
ranging to develop the field on a more
extensive scale. Eppstein of Fort
Worth Shadwick of New York and
Ike Standifer of Houston have be
come Interested in the company's
lands and will put up a considerable
amount of money to aid in the de-
velopment. ' The promoters hope to
have a diamond drill at work around
Holloway mountain within sixty days.
Thus far Cal Huffman has bored four
wells ranging in depth from 90 to 127
feet. In which there are good indica-
tions of striking oil in paying quanti-
ties; and he has drilled six wells
ranging In depth from 90 to 161 feet
in which coal has been struck.
