Read II Corinthians 1: IS-Z4
I All the promises of God find
their Yes in him. That is why we
utter the Amen through him, to
the glnrv of God. (II Corinthians
1:20. RSV.)
My grandmother used to mark
with pencil the promises of God
in the Bible. Thus she nourished
her soul on His sure Word.
My mother, who also loved her
Bible, had a "Promise Box." This
consisted of tinv rolls of stiff pa-
per, each containing some pro-
mise from God's Word. Each morn-
ing she would take out a promise.
When I visited her, I would some-
times be offered the box from
which to draw a promise. I can
testify from the experience of both
of us how often the words we
read were timely and relevant to
our need.
How blessed to depend upon
God's promises in the Bible which
are never reversed and which nev-
er fail! Our souls need them, if
we are to keep spiritually strong-
just as our bodies need daily food.
John Wesley once described the
gospel as one great promise —
as indeed it is.
PRAYER: 0 God, who hast made
such great and precious pro-
mises to all who believe Thy
Word, help us by daily trust in

experience. May we know that
whatever may befall us, Thy

you'll find a Faith
to live by...
It's quiet inside. Quiet with the peace
of centuries, for this is God's House.
Within these walls, the worries which
loomed so large outside become
less fearsome... for the first time perhaps
you see them in their true perspective.
If (his alone were the reward of Faith, it
would l>e enough. But there is more.
Faith is a source of strength, a reservoir
of power that helps you meet the needs
of every day. By worshiping with your
family each week at your church or
synagogue, you're giving them a measure of
security no amount of money could buy.
The Faith to hope ... to grow... to live by.

FALSE CLAIMS BY ROBERTS EXPOSED
BY RAYBURN'S LONG-TIME SECRETARY

Judge Bob Slagle has received many letters, telegrams and tele-
phone calls from the late Speaker Sam Rayburn's closest friends and
trusted associates expressing the deepest resentment against the false
claims being made by Ray Roberts.
Roberts' false claims that he was Rayburn's administrative assistant
from 1939 through 1943, and that he "had been trained by Rayburn
for 20 years for a Congressional post" brought a quick reply from
Miss Alia Clary, 72, of Prosper and Washington, who served as Mr.
Rayburn's secretary for 42 years. Miss Clary's letter certainly sets the
record straight, exposing Roberts' mascjuerade:

Dear Bob:
You may be interested to know that in tbe
U2 yews that I worked for Sam Rayburn as bis Secretary
I never heard him say that he vas grooming anyone to
succeed him as Representative of the Fourth Congressional
District of Texas. I do not know that he told anyone
that he vas training them to come to Washington.
As to the publicity that the other candidate
Is putting out that he was Speaker Rayburn's Secretary
for several years, thi6 is not true. The time be spent
in Mr. Rayburn's office can be verified in tbe record?
in The Sam Rayburn Library. In the list of employees
in that Library the other candidate is listed as having
worked for Mr. Rayburn from February 1, 19^1 to January
31, 19^2, and vas on the roll as a Clerk.
I am giving this to you for your information,
ind you may use it as you see fit.
Sincerely,
am.

Judge Bob Slagle, who opposes Roberts in the run-ofl election Januan 30 for the
Congressional seat in the Fourth District, sajs: I he greatest tribute that the great
Speaker's successor could pay to his memory would be to light for the same things that
A Sam Rayburn fought for. My campaign is based on the support of the very legislative ^
measures that Mr. Rayburn was pushing in the last session of Congress. My opponent
has announced that he is opposed to the medical care bill for the aged—the very bill
that Mr. Rayburn favored and which he hoped to pass in this session of the Congress.
Vote January 30 To Send
JUDGE BOB SLAGLE
To Congress From The Fourth District
