Mayor Roan Surrounded By Sachse's Protective Force
"To Protect And To
Serve" was the slogan Chief
Morris chose when he was
appointed chief of police
in January, 1980.
Chief Morris now has
himself a 24 hour, seven
day a week job. As he
stated, "something had to
be done." Morris and Mike
Barrow, ex-sheriff deputy
of Dallas County got
together and a police reserve
was formed.
Mike Barrow became the
commander of the reserve
force which now has 11
uniformed officers. Most
of the officers are ex-police
officers with certification,
the others are in training
for certification.
In order for the Chief
to have a day off the
reserves are assigned regular
patrols with two persons
to a squad car.
"Sachse doesn't have
much crime at this time
but Sachse is growing and
so will crime if we don't
keep a tight hold on it,"
Chief Morris said.
Chief Morris said that
with a motorcycle patrolling
the highway on weekends,
traffic has been slowed
down considerable and that
this alone will help to
prevent accidents.
A great thanks should
go to all of Sachse for
their support and cooper-
ation of the police depart-
ment. Most of the speeding
and the little crime which
is committed comes from
persons other than Sachse
residents.

Sachse Council Votes
Increase
15c Tax
l
When the City Council
approved the 1980-81
budget for operation of
the City of Sachse, the
tax rate was also raised
by 15 cents; from 60
cents to 75 cents on
$100.00 assessed valuation.
This tax increase was
•pessary to fund the
^ roved budget with
needed capitol improve-
ments.
This tax increase is the
first since 1973, it has
been the same for the
past seven years. It is
only the second time that
taxes have increased since
Sachse was incorporated.
The largest .amount of
the increase will go to
fund a capitol improvement

program of replacing and
enlarging a water line on
Highway 78 to the east
of Sachse. This part of
the city is now served
with a 2 inch water line
and is part of the original
water system which was
installed some 20 years
ago. Capitol expenditures
for the water lines were
estimated at $45,000.00.
The addition of a police
department this year added
$27,696.00 to the budget
which in the past has
not been a budget item.
This $27,696.00 is still
considered a bargain
compared to the
$104,000.00 that the
county was asking for the
sheriffs department to do
.0i«5. patroling.in. Sachse.
An annual payment of
$4,772.00 for the addition
to the fire station is another
item which was not in
last year's budget.
Although there were
slight increases in all of
the budget, due to the
rising cost of everything
which the city must
purchase, those three
departments will get most
of the increase.
This year the city will
begin a data processing
method for water billing.
The city now has over
550 water meters and it
is a full time job for one
clerk to do all the billing,
etc. This data processing
will relieve some of the
work and the clerk will
be able to help the city
secretary.,.
