Parkfest Fund-Raiser
Planned in Wylie
The Parks and Recreation
Board of Wylie will sponsor
Parkfest at City Park on
Saturday, Oct. 13.
That Wylie Band will kick off
festivities with a march to the
park where many activities
will take place including a
crafts show and ball
tournaments.
This first fund-raiser event
of its kind will become an
annual event to benefit the
City Park.
A lot of credit must go to
Rosanne Burgess, library
director, for her involvement
in the recent acquisition of a
desirable and much-needed
piece of equipment at Smith
Library in Wylie.
A combination of Rosanne's
desire, determination and
belief encouraged Adrian
Hunt, document imaging
consultant with Mino-
Micrgraphics, Inc. to "go the
extra mile."
"We needed a reader-
printer so badly," said
Burgess. "There have been
many requests for one. When
we haven't had what our local
patrons in Wylie needed and
asked for, then they had to go
to Piano and I don't like that."
A new printer would have
cost an "unthinkable" amount,
according to Burgess. A used
one in good condition was
located and offered for $500.
Still more than the budget
would allow. But prompted by
Burgess' persistence, Hunt
contacted the corporate
office of his company in El
Paso.
As a result of Hunt's efforts,
the company decided to
donate not only one but three
printers. The additional two
went to Rowlett Library and
Wylie High School. Total

donation amounted to $4,600.
The printer completes a
three-piece equipment cycle.
Burgess points out the steps -
first stopping at the TOM
(text on microform) which is
basically an index scanner
that integrates four years of
information into a file system
by subject, author, product,

and reviews. The information
can then be pulled and
reviewed on a Micro Design
995 or on the newly donated
Minolta RP 405E which will
both review and print the
desired material.
Everyone is invited to stop
by and see the new
equipment, try it out and take
a hard copy printout for just
25 cents.
And if you need it, Burgess
will patiently explain the
whole process again.
