STEEL
iiri
ARE HARD TO BREAK
United Gas is delivering more natural gas to more customers
than ever before, but the demand is still not satisfied. The "bottle
neck" is largely in the scarcity of steel pipe and other facilities
required to move gas to market. To help meet the demand, we are
I
investing large sums of money in rearranging pipe lines and
in reconditioning used pipe, valves and similar equipment for
use on our system where gas is most urgently needed. This is one
of many functions of the United Gas organization, all of which
have the ultimate purpose of assuring a more dependable
supply of natural gas to our customers.
UNITED GAS
Union Producing Company
Serving the
Pipe that hat been removed
from the ground for recon-
ditioning and further use is
cleaned and fesfed with all
the meticulous care of new
pipe. Hydrostatic teitt, by
which water l placed in a
length of pipe under high
pressure, are frequently
used to locate posslhla
weaknesses in the pipe.
If leaks are found, they are
welded, and corroded areas
are strengthened. The pipa
is then coated end wrapped
or covered with thick So-
mastic coating if destined
for use under water or in
swampy area.
As soon as the recondition-
ing job is complete, the pip«
Is moved to locations wh?r«
it can best help to meet th*
ever-Increasing demand for
natural gas.
