The defeat, which took place at
Homer B. Johnson Stadium,
dropped the Mustangs to 2-2 overall
and 0-1 in the district. The Rangers
are 2-2 and 1-0.
Sachse will play Garland at 7 p.m.
tonight at Williams Stadium, while
Naaman Forest plays 7:30 p.m.
Friday at HBJ against South
Garland.
"Right now, we're not in a rhythm
offensively or defensively," head
coach Mark Behrens said. "I thought
we were further along than that, but
we're not."
Prior to the district opener, the
Mustangs were 2-1 against non-dis-
trict foes, beating McKinney 35-28
in overtime, losing to Frisco

thing that wasn't the case versus the
duced 254 total yards and six
turnovers. Three of the latter were
turned into 17 points by the Rangers.
Overall, the defense surrendered
just 291 yards, but did give up 112
yards on 23 carries to running back
Jonathan Miller.
Sachse's troubles began after the
Mustangs took a 7-0 early in the sec-
ond quarter, when Chad Winget
rolled left, threw across his body,
and hit Russ Johnson in the end /one

Murphy vital to
team success

Sachse Head coach Rikki
Williamson emphasizes the "team"
concept.
No part is more important than
another, and by working together as
a unit, the Lady Mustangs will suc-
ceed.
So far during the 2006 district
season, that philosophy has proved
profitable, as Sachse. the two-time
defending district champs, went 7-0
through the first half of play, includ-
ing wins last week over Rowlett and
Naaman Forest, their primary con-
tenders for first place.
Friday's victory also was the 31st
straight district triumph for the Lady
Mustangs.
Among their vital cogs are out-
side hitter and middle blocker
Courtney Rawlinson and Kadie
Murphy, a pair of juniors who start
on a senior-laden ball club.
"My team has different leaders at
different times." Williamson said. "1
don't have anybody who is just a
leader all the time, which is one of
reasons 1 think we're playing so
Courtney Rawlinson
much better right now, because
we're a team.
"Kadie and Courtney have been
leading with the play all the way
around, and just because their jun-
iors on a team that's real heavy in
seniors (does not mean) they cannot
have a leading role, because they are
... They do everything. They have a
well-rounded game up to this point."
Both earned valuable court time a
year ago as sophomores. Back then,
fueled by inexperience and adrena-
line, the girls thought that power
was the key to success.
Now, with a season under their
belt combined with more maturity,
each understands there's more to the
game.
"I've gotten smarter about hit-
ting," Murphy said. "In my sopho-

more year i tried hitting it hard all
the time. This year we run plays
more. My ball control has changed
the most."
Murphy's improved play and
experience has literally turned her
into an all-around player. During the
2005 she stayed at the net an entire
match, whereas this season she
shifts from front to back throughout
a contest.
"When I'm in the back row. 1
have to read a lot more." Murphy
said. "In the front row, it's so fast
that you go by gut. In the back row
you have more time, so you have to
read the players."
Rawlinson got familiar with both
areas of the court in 2005. Like
