on schedule, firm says
By Patty Montagno
Anyone interested in becoming
the next city manager of Sachse has
about a month to toss their hat into
the ring.
The city manager search is being
conducted by The Waters-Oldani
Executive Recruitment division of
the Waters Consulting Group.
"I know as of last week they have
received many resumes and
inquiries," Interim Mayor Mike
Felix said.
"That's encouraging, and I'was
pleased that so many people are
responding."
Last October after a lengthy exec-
utive session City Council members
approved a motion accepting Bill
Atkinson's resignation from his
position as city manager.
Atkinson was hired as city man-
ager in 1999.
"Dill has served as city manager
for many years and his tenure will
not be forgotten," McMillan said.
"It is the nature of his profession
that periodically, city managers
move on to new cities and new chal-
lenges."
Finance Director Alan Dickerson
was appointed the interim replace-
ment.
According to the job search
description, the city council appoints
a city manager to serve as the chief
administrative officer and manage
day-to-day affairs under the guide-
lines and policies established by the
council.
"The city manager is a vital com-
ponent of the governance of the city
responsible for the appointment and
supervision of staff, preparation and
recommendation of the annual bud
get," Dickerson said.
The city manager provides recom-
mendations in consultation with the
mayor and members of the city
council.
The following listing reflects the
management style and personal
characteristics of the ideal candi-
date:
•Outstanding personal leadership,
management and administrative
skills. Highly developed financial
management and budgetary skills.
•High personal energy and a posi-
tive approach with an approachable,
friendly, open and participatory
management style.
•The ability to work with and
communicate effectively with all
levels of the organization and all ele-
ments of the community on a fair
and equitable basis with the willing-
ness to communicate effectively and
equitably with all members of the
city council in an accurate and time-
ly fashion.
