Veterans Questions:
Q Is it possible to enroll in two
schools at once under the GI Bill?
A. Yes, but only under three con-
ditions: < 1 the one complete
course you are taking is not availa-
ble at a single institution; (2i your
principal school prescribes a course
and approves enrollment In a se-
cond school, and (3) the training
furnished by the second school is
part of your one elected course and
can be scheduled satisfactorily.
Q. May I claim my grandmother
as a dependent parent for GI Bill
subsistence allowance purposes? She
raised me ever since I was a small
child.
A. Yes, but only if you can es-
tablish that she is your foster mo-
ther and actually takes the place
of a parent. Under those conditions,
you may be granted increased bene-
lits for a dependent parent.
Q I submitted a claim for in-
creased disability compensation
and failed to show up for my phy-
sical examination, since it simply
slipped my mind. What should I
do now?
A. Your claim for the increase
h;is been considered abandoned.
You should file a new application
and make arrangements for a new
physical examination.
Q My daughter is receiving death
pension payments from VA, based
on the facts that she is the child
of a deceased World War I vete-
ran and that she is attending an
approved school and is not yet 21.
Will the payments continue through
the summer vacation, even though
Sometimes all we'seem to want
to think about is the past. Mem-
ories parade back and forth before
our minds eye. . . Maybe this is a
sign that we are slowly but surely
getting older. . . Anyway, last week
we were thinking of the cotton
sack overalls and this week it is
the little one room school house.
Do you remember the cute little
bit of daintiness that used to hire
out to teach them? Do you re-
member the scared expression on
her face as she rang the bell for
the first time???? Taking on the
job of higher learning in the dis-
trict and maybe still in her teens
must have taken a lot of nerve.
Picture if you will the community
bully that was old enough to vote
and still in school. If the new
teacher was young and good look-
ing the ambition of each of the
larger boys was to make her a part
of the community as his wife. . .
Failing this to make her life so
miserable that another and pret-
tier one would come to take over
next fall. Actually she was doomed
irom the start. She had only two
choices; one to marry one of what
had been one of the communities
worst characters, but had suddenly
become the meek Utile lamb, or to
be a complete failure and pass on
to other schools.
Anyhow, we can see the smoke
drifting slowly into the heavens
above the oak trees. The birds flirt
with the first leaves to set sail for
their winters resting place. Then
A'e see the open door come into
view. Looking closely we see last
years mean boy dusting the desks
snd carrying the wood from one
side of the stove to the other. We
know that the inevitable has hap-
pened but we are still afraid to say
anything about it. Our leader, the
mean one, the one we idolized last
year has gone the way of all men.
Scummbed to the wiles and smiles
of this nX'W lniub. . . Oh well, an-
other lion will' rise up to take over
the tribe. . .
Reaching the door we see that
the future of the school is in the
making, and as we mumble out our
name to the new teacher, we rock
back and forth as we count the
marbles m our square cornered
cotton sack pockets, the future of
our school has ceen. settled.

Hep. Rogers says; We should not
allow ourselves to be stampeded
into doiny something that could1
prove detrimental to our country— |
final judgement should be reserved
until all the facts are in."
How right he is at that. But
maybe now that the water is really
muddy, perhaps all the lacts be-
hind the facts will come to the
top and we can Know what is
what . . . Oh, oh, how I do wish
that my idea for a Department Of
Truth could have been in opera-
tion. It would have saved all this
mess, or have made it worse.

I have a feeling that I should
go back ana tear up the day dream
about the one-room school and the
beautiful teacher. . . One thing that
I forgot about the overalls was
the fact that on the y ars that we
were at war, or that the Democrats
had just come into power and had
noi as yet run out of campaign
promises we would have good prices
and could afford to dye them blue.
Since last June we have paid
with more than sixty thousand
casualties in Korea; in that same
period of time British Malays has
sold to the Chinese reds 120 thous-
and tons of rubber to haul the
shells to the front. And this was
supposed to be a non-profit war.

Slowly but surely the farmer and
the cow-man are being entangled
in a maze of red-tape and con-
fusion steming from the confusion
City of Washington, D. C. that
never again will they be abie to
call themselves free men. If when
the war broke out Wasliingtoi
could have had the courage to
freeze all prices, and say with cer-
tainty there will be no profits this
time. . . But no, six months later
one fellow raked up enough courage
to take a punch and one group.
But no one in Washington has
had the courage to tell the people
we are in a war yet. I wonder how
the boys who come home crippled
for life feel to hear the joyful
news that it has been a horrible
dream and that there has been

Answer to Question No. 2: «.
2. No. Prescriptions are us-
ually for a given disease for a
given period of time. Some
medicine spoils in only a short
time. A drug prescribed for one
person is not necessarily good
for another, even though they
have the same disease. It may-
be dangerous to use drugs pre-
scribed for one illness to treat
another sickness without your

Premature babies especially
need extra vitamin D since they
inay not have inherited much
from their mothers and because
they grow so fast. Manv doctors
give babies vitamin C in the
form of orange juice before they

covery of the importance of
vitamins is one of the outstand-
ing health contributions of the
20th century.
