Notes

"After tomatoes were sold to shippers' buyers on the street market, they were hauled to buyer's shed to be graded, packed, and shipped to markets in North and East. Tomatoes tacked on ground are "culls", which did not meet size and quality specifications set by Department of Agriculture standards. Farmers could sell those for canning or dump them. Some farmers would take culls home, ripen them in the shade, peddle them for "eating tomatoes" for most culls were suitable for immediate consumption. Identity of men unknown."
