away Aug. 14
Funeral services for John Cof-
frey Knox, 84, former resident of
Wayside and Dimmitt, and more
recently of Kerrville, were held at
10 a.m. Wednesday in Amarillo,
With the Rev. C. C. Hardaway,
pastor of the Wesley Methodist
Church of Amarillo, officiating.
Another service was conducted
at 3 p.m. Thursday in Kerrville.
Burial was in a Kerrville ceme-
tery. Mr. Knox passed away
Tuesday, Aug. 14, 1962.
Mr. Knox was the father of
Mrs. Ethel Gillham and Travis
Knox, both of Claude.
Mr. Knox, a retired groceryman
had lived in Wayside 20 years and
two years at Dimmitt before mov-
ing to Kerrville.
He was born March 24, 1878. in
Mesquite. He was a Methodist
and a member of the Masons and
Shrine Temple.
Surviving are five daughters,
Mrs. Sid Sheff.v of Dimmitt, Mrs.
W. A. Sikes of Slaton, Mrs. Ethel
Gillham of Claude, Mrs. Jim An-
drews of Riverside, Calif., Mrs.
Roland Moore of Vigo Park; five
sons, John P. of Vista, Calif., K.
C. of Graff, Mo., J. C. of Bakers-
field, Calif., Travis of Claude and
Jack Dale Knox of Riverside; five
sisters, one brother, 36 grand-
cildren, 40 great-grandchildren.

and children, Doug and Janis, re-
turned home recently from a
weeks vacation at Red River, N.
M. Roy is reported to have
caught some fish. Wonder if he
did?

This reporter has had some
difficulty in finding anyone at
home this month as everyone but
the dogs and pound keeper have
been on vacation and maybe some
of the dogs.

Saturday evening
Don and Nancy Gillespie, two
children, Charles and Cheryle and
Wendell and Patsy Goin, all of
Lubbock, spent the weekend visit-
ing the ladie's parents, Mr., and
Mrs. Ralph Bagwell and Wendell's
mother, Mrs. Geo. Goin.
Patsy will receive her bachelor's
degree in elementary education at
exercises Saturday evening, Aug.
25, at Texas Tech. in Lubbock.
Patsy will then start teaching
fifth grade in a Lubbock ele-
mentary school Monday, Aug. 27.
She finished her degree in three
years by taking advantage of
summer school, which is quite an
accomplishment.

while on vacation
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Blanton
and Joe and Mr. and m£s. Horace
Dye, returned home Sunday night
from a week's trip up through
Minoesota where they got to see
the Yankigs play the Twins at
Munlclpial Stadium between the
twin cities, Minneapolis and St.
Paul. They also got a looksee at
Mickey Mantle. They drove on
through Nebraska, Iowa, vsitied
Lake Superior and back down
through the Dakotas and home.

Pete Peterson recently received
a "Thank You" card from Andrew
J. Durkus, who was with Para-
mount Pictures while they were
here, thanking the fountain crew
at the Claude Pharmacy and e-
veryone who were so kind to them
while they were here.
In appreciation
Members of the Pee Wee base-
ball team would like to extend
their appreciation to Harry Wood
who gave so much of his time
coaching them this season and
also to the other men who as-
sisted him during the season. We
think he is a fine coach and ap-
preciate it a lot.

returned home Sunday after tak-
ing Miss Rubbie Linson back to
Los Vegas, N.M. Rubbie spent
most of the summer here with
them. The Chapman's brought
Junior Linson home with them
to spend the week. They also
visited in Raton before returning. "™
