Ketenes are a group of organic
compounds of which ketene, a
compound of two parts carbon and
one part oxygen, is the simplest.
There has been no research work
done in this area since the 20's
and 30's. This early work was
done by a German scientist, Her-
mann Staudinger.
The work done at North Texas
is the only significant research
since Staudinger's. Mr. Knesek
was successful in developing di-
leromoketene, an organic chemi-
cal made up of bromine, carbon
and oxygen. His research work has

the Claude Church of Christ for
the Saturday evening, Sept. 4, 1965,
wedding of Miss Karen Virginia
Bryan and Richard Don Goodin.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Gilbert Bryan and the
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lee Goodin, all of Claude.
Doyle Wells, minister, was of-
ficiant for the double ring nup-
tial ceremony. Bill Blackstone of
Groom, soloist, and a vocal group
from Southside Church of Christ
in Amarillo, provided traditional
wedding music.
Mrs. Jack Goodin was matron
of honor. Bridesmaids were Misses
Irita Bowe of Happy and Linda
Freeman of Gotebo, Okla. Miss
Debbie Goodin, sister of the bride-
groom, was junior bridesmaid. At-
tendants wore blue satina dresses
and carried blue and white floral
nosegays.
Tawnya Bryan of Canyon and
Susana Goodin were flower girls.
Candles were lighted by Twila
Bryan of Canyon and Elizabeth
Goodin.
Jack Goodin was his brother's
best man. Groomsmen were Emery
Goodin, brother of the bridegroom

and James Bryan of Canyon, bro-
ther of the bride. Richard Step-
henson, Ricky Barnett, Richard
Kennedy of Happy and Jimmy
Thomas of Lubbock ushered.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride wore a formal wed-
ding gown of candlelight antique
silk taffeta and Chantilly lace.
The lace bodice was designed with
sabrina neckline and petal-point
sleeves, and the full taffeta skirt
swept into a long ehap?l train.
The bride's shoulder-length veil of
French illusion was secured to a
pearl tiara and she carried an ar-
rangement of roses atop a white
Bible.
The wedding reception was held
in the home of the bride's parent,;
Mr. and Mrs. Goodin will reside
In Lubbock.
Both are graduates of Claude
High School. Mrs. Goodin is ma-
joring in elementary education
at Lubbock Christian College,
where she is a member of Alpha
Epsilon Chi social club. A junior
chemistry major at Texas Tech-
nological College, the bridegroom
is a member of the American Che-
mical Society.

Texas University in Canyon where
he will be a sophomore majoring
in P.E. He is the son of Gene
and Bonnie Wood.
«J Wayne and Norma Webb are
the proud owners of a new 1965
Ford Fairlane, white over blue.
This was Norma's birthday pre-
sent, a wheel for each year.

Dear Editor:
Would like to let all of you in
Claude know how Mr. Knesek's
research work came out this sum-
mer.
Mr. Knesek was awarded a grant
from the National Science Foun-
dation and North Texas State
University to do research work in
chemistry. He was assigned the di-
liromoketene project under the su-
pervision of Dr. William L. Brady.
Dr. Brady and two of his assist-
ants have been working in the
ketene field for about two years
and were successful in developing
dichlorohetene earlier this year,
