Judging slated
at Fairview
The Fairview Rural Neighbor-
hood met Tuesday evening, April
2, 1963 at the community center,
with the officers in charge of
the program. Forrest Bennett, our
new elected President for the
coming year, acted, due to the
absence of the President and the
Vice President.
A short business meeting was
held. Lee Goodin announced that
a young veterinarian was con-
sidering coming to Caude to start
his practice. It was decided we
would write a letter and have
the men sign it, recommending
the young man for the position
or to encourage him to come to
Claude.
It was voted that we have a
pancake supper in the near future
to help raise money.
Leta Goodin announced ahe
was taking up money for the
Red Cross.
It was announced that oUf
judging day would be April 17,
1963 at 10 o'clock in the morn-
ing and then we would serve
lunch to the judges at 12 o'clock.
The roll call was read and Le-
ta's side won by two.
Then the program was turned
over to Ruby Bennett who intro-
duced her guests. Romaine Swan
did a musical chalk talk while
Ruby Bennett and Frankie Mc-
Farland sang duets, accompanied
at the piano by Leona Woodward.
Our thanks to all of these people
who gave us such an enjoyable,
evening.
Our meeting adjourned and re-
freshments were served by the
committee in charge.
Wayside wins 7
places in contest
Mrs. May Grimes of Amarillo,
spent Saturday and Sunday visit-
ing her daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Brady and her son
and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. G.
(Bill) Dunn.
Wayside 4-Hers won seven first
places in the County 4-H Elimina-
tion Contests held recently. They
placed as follows:
Rifle contest, Ronnie Wetzel
placed on first team.
Senior tractor, Royse Modisette
placed first; Wallice Benard al-
ternate.
Junior tractor, Jackie Newsom
won first.
Poultry demonstration, first
place, Linda Newsom and Debbie
Music.
Junior electrical, first place,
Lois Bernard and Billy Scroggins.
Safety, first place, Fay Modi-
sette and Bruce Scroggins.
Interscholastic extemporaneous
Speaking, Frances Heisler.
Wayside is very prtud of the
outstanding work done by their
4-H children in the county eli-
minations. Every category enter-
ed by the youth took top honors.
Congratulations youth, and our
thanks and gratitude to ouf out-
standing 4-H leaders, Mr. and
Mrs." Henry Hamblen. We are
proud of Frances for taking first
place in extemporaneous speaking.
Mrs. Melton McGehee will at-
tend the Piydue, Ind. meeting as
Delegate to Leadership Confer-
ence for THDA (Texas Home De-
monstration Association). — Way-

Mid Plains elects
four directors
Attends Harold
Bugbee memorial
John Howard Gilbert, Mrs. J. E.
Johnson and Billie Wolford were
among those attending the Harold
Bugbee memorial services held in
Clarendon last week. They also
attended the funeral of Grover
Heath the same day.
«' Mrs. Clyde Gilbert of Clarendon
is visiting a few days with her
mother, Mrs. A. L. Cobb.
« Mrs. Fred Hagaman of Conway
visited Wednesday afternoon of
last week with Mrs. Tom Epting.
The tenth annual meeting of
MidrPlains Rural Telephone Co-
operative was held Friday even-
ing, April 5, at the Tulia Junior
High School Auditorium. 66 mem-
bers were registered out of an
estimated 150 people in atten-
dance.
Highlight of the business meet-
ing was the election of four direc-
tors to serve three year terms.
They are Melton McGehee of
Wayside, B.vard Sadler of Vigo
Park, Earl Cantwell of the Rock-
creek Community near Silverton,
and Milton Sharp, west of Tulia.
The invocation was given by the
Rev. H. M. Secord, pastor of the
First Methodist Church of Kress.
Wayne Cooper, manager of the
Tulia Chamber of Commerce and
Agriculture, gave the welcome ad-
dress.
Guests and distinguished visi-
tors present were introduced by
