18TH ANNUAL
Republic of "exas 6 ker Rally
Worldwide economic woes? Forego
the doom and gloom, shove work
schedules to the side—it's time for
the party that only a state the size of
Texas can handle, the motorcycle
meltdown made famous in Austin.
It's been a year and the natives are
restless. So set your internal biker
clock in countdown mode and set
your sights on the heart of Texas.
Get ready to Rev Up for the ROT
Rally!
The largest economic private event
in Austin, the Republic of Texas
Biker Rally brings in more than $36
million to the local coffers. And
these four days in June (7-10) have
become synonymous with a party
atmosphere unlike any in the world.
This is Texas after all. And this
unique party, that now entertains an
international audience, drawing
participants from around the world,
comes with an admission price of
only $60. Four days of music,
motorcycles and festivities all for no
more than the cost of a single
concert ticket.
Leading this year's charge, the
Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent will
take to the main stage on Saturday
night for a concert like no other. TV
personality, hunting advocate and
political activist, Ted Nugent has
earned the Gonzo moniker rightfully.
Now a Texas residence, Nugent
brings his talents on the six-string
along with his right wing beliefs and
pro-gun stance to a crowd that
understands "Uncle Ted's" Spirit of
the Wild attitude. Also on tap,
Shooter Jennings is the highlighted
music act on Friday ni«ht. Following
in his famous parents footsteps,
Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter,
Shooter brings his own sense of
scrappy country to ROT and fans
that appreciate both scrappy and
country.
The gates to the Travis County
Exposition Center in Northeast
Austin kick open Thursday with 350
premier vendors offering t he latest in
chrome and leather, dazzling paint
and daring designs and everything
biker. Other attractions at the Expo
Center include the World Famous
Wall of Death, a Tattoo Expo, and
high-flying stunt riders performing
throughout the weekend. And once
again the ROT promoters will honor
(hose men and women of the
military by giving away a special
construction bike to a lucky winner
in the service. Inside the air-
conditioned Thunder Dome,
Celebrity Builders from around the
State and across the nation will be
on hand displaying their cutting
edge creations, answering questions
and posing for photos. In the center
of the Dome, a Vintage Bike Exhibit
will allow you to step back in time to
the early days of motorcycling.
Numerous bars, food courts and four
stages featuring live music will be in
fu operation throughout the rally
grounds at the Travis County Expo
Center, claimed to be it's own city
during ROT week.
Friday night the legendary
"Longest Parade of Motorcycles" (as
determined by the Guinness Book of
World Records), leaves the
fairgrounds for a ride to downtown
Austin where the city cordons off 54
square blocks for the biggest street
party in Texas with as many as
100,000 showing up for the
celebration. The parade is included
in the cost of your rally ticket while
the downtown bash is free.
Saturday's action ratchets up the
thrill factor with a Ride-In Bike Show
featuring 17 classes and an
adrenaline charged Biker Rodeo so
over the top that it will challenge the
best of the two-wheeled cowboys.
Toss in free tent camping, tons of RV
spots, on-site hot showers and a
nightly party that exceeds
description and it's easy to
understand why entire vacation
calendars are crafted around the
Republic of Texas Biker Rally. Don't
be left out of this year's
excitement—a part of the Texas
spirit, a place in Texas history,
afterall this ain't just a rally, it's an
experience.
