Miss Linda Stevens, Billy Gene McCoy
exchange wedding vows Sunday
Miss Linda Ann' Stevens
and Billy Gene McCoy ex-
changed marriage vows in an
impressive candlelight service
at the home of her parents at
3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, in
the presence of their immedi-
ate families.
The bridegroom's uncle, the
Rev. James Day, pastor of the
Baptist Church at Cason, per-
formed the double ring cere-
mony.
Parents of the couple are
Mr. and Mrs. James Andrew
Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Eugene McCoy Jr., all oe
Marietta.
Vows were exchanged be-
fore an improvised altar of
English Ivy with floor cande-
labra holding white tapers
which complemented the
graceful lines of the arrange-
ments of white gladiola and
chrysanthemums.
The bride was given in mar-
riage by her father. She wore
a street length dress with
waist length jacket in pale
blue embossed cotton satin
with matching accessories and
carried a Mother of Pearl cov-
ered Bible from Jerusalem
overlaid with a white orchid
bridal bouquet.
Her only attendant was Miss
Myra Beth Betts, a cousin of
the bridegroom, who wore a
natural color ribbon knit dress
with a hat of pale blue. She
carried a floral white fan with
a cluster of white carnations
interspersed with tufts of pale
blue nylon and satin ribbon.
The bridegroom's brother,
Thomas Ray McCoy, of Mari-
etta, was best man. The
bride's brother, James An-
drew Stevens Jr. of Austin,
lighted the tapers preceding
the ceremony.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Stevens chose an '"L Aig-
lon" gown of natural emboss-
ed cotton with which she wore
a cap of coq feathers in white.
Her corsage was of white car-
nations.
The bridegroom's mother
wore a rose taupe lace gown
with matching accessories and
a corsage of white carnations.
Following the wedding, the
bride's parents gave a recep-
tion at their home where the
bride's chosen colors of blue
and white were repeated in
the decor. The bride's table
was laid with white ret under-
laid with white. A silver and
crystal epergne held a white
flower arrangement flanked
by crystal candelabra. At one
end of the table was the cry-
stal punch service where Miss
Lcuise Anthony poured. Miss
Elizabeth Ann Morris, the
bridegroom's cousin, served
the beautiful three-tiered
bride's cake decorated with
dainty white spun sugar rose
buds and lilies of the valley
and crowned with a miniature
bride and bridegroom.
Registering the guests in
the dainty white bride's book
was Mrs. William Ronald
Whittington, sister of the
bride, of Beaumont.
Mrs. McCoy was graduated
from Livingston high school
and attended Texas Woman's
University in Denton and East
Texas State College in Com-
merce. The bridegroom grad-
uated from Pewitt high school
and is attending Texas A & M
College at College Station.
For travel, Mrs. McCoy
chose a raw silk dress fashion-
ed on sheath outline with
three-quarter length sleeves
in Cafe D' Oro with which she
wore a cap of coq feathers
and jewelry in harmonizing
tones. Her accessories were
black and she wore the orchid
corsage from her bridal bou-
quet.
The couple will be at home
at 305 Second Street at Col-
lege Station, Texas.
Guests from out of the com-
munity were Wayne Hender-
son of Dallas; Miss Elizabeth
Ann Morris of Myra, La.; Mrs.
Estelle Thompson, Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh Floyd and Mrs.
Ray Jones, all of Daingerfield;
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Whit-
tington: and James Stevens
Jr. of Austin.

Symbol of
Freedom
Back in 1776 in this month of July, the
original 13 colonies wrote and signed a Dec-
laration which established them as free and
independent states.
In the 185 years since then, the United States
of America has grown to 50 states and has
become the most powerful Nation on earth.
But of more significance today, in a world
filled with turmoil, it stands as a mighty
bulwark against tyranny and the threat of
oppression.
We of General Telephone join with all free-
dom-loving Americans in expressing humble
pride in our heritage and the principles of
liberty for which it stands.
