Area of Management to Hold 'Future Battlefield' Conference
The College of Business Administra-
tion Area of Management will conduct a
conference entitled "Leadership on the
Future Battlefield" May 15-18, 1983 on
the Texas Tech campus.
The conference will be sponsored by
the U.S. Army Research Institute for the
Behavioral and Social Sciences, along
with the College.
The conference will bring together
scholars and military leaders to focus
on critical leadership and organiza-
tional issues which will affect the battle-
field of the year 2000, according to Pro-
fessor Jerry Hunt, area coordinator of
management, who is co-chairman of the
conference along with John Blair, asso-
ciate professor of management.
"Participants will be divided into task
forces to discuss working papers pro-
vided by management/leadership re-
searchers," Hunt said. "Civilian and mil-
itary experts will provide papers
addressing specific problems which will
be discussed by a series of combined
military/civilian task forces.
"It is anticipated that final conclu-
sions by these task forces will be pub-
lished for use in the military War Col-
leges. This book also will include a
'roadmap' for future research to deal
with these leadership and organiza-
tional issues," Hunt said.
Members of the management faculty
who will provide working papers
include Professors Ram Baliga, Richard
F. Barton, John Blair, Barry A. Macy and
Carlton J. Whitehead.
Keynote speaker for the conference
will be General Richard E. Cavazos,
commander of U.S. Army Forces Com-
mand with headquarters at Fort
McPherson, Georgia.
