Energy Tips
For Winter!

* Sel your heater thermostat at 68 degrees or lower.
* If you have an electric furnace, colder outdoor temperatures
can cause electric bills to double or triple - even if the
thermostat setting stays the same. ,
* Turn your electric heating unit off when you leave the house
for more than two hours unless you have a heat pump. If you
are concerned about pipes freezing, the Water and Wastewa-
ter Department advises that you turn water off at the property
owner's cut-off valve, located near your water meter, and
open several faucets. Wrap outdoor faucets.
* Clean or change heater filters once a month. The filter is
located behind the return air vent or in the air conditioning
closet.
* If your thermostat is near a window or door, it may cause your
heater tq nin more often because cold drafts blowing over
your thermostat will make it register a colder temperature.
