LAKE BASTROP REPORT
LBAVFD slates fundraisers
By Jan Ta> lor
Members of the Lake Bastrop
Volunteer Fire Department voted
to break a 13 year tradition during
their general meeting January 21,
when they voted not to have their
annual Spring Festival in May.
After much discussion and a
series of votes, members decided
to hold four small scale fund raisers
throughout the year instead of one
big festival.
The first fund raiser will be a
chili supper on Saturday. February
25. (Watch the paper for further
details). Jack Jenkins will coor-
dinate the event. The members
voted to canvas the area served by
the volunteer organization in May
when the festival is usually held in
an attempt to educate the residents
to purpose and needs of the fire
department. Former president, Jim
Taylor, is chairman of a commit-
tee to organize the activities for that
weekend.
A garage sale is planned for the
month of August and another chili

supper is on the calendar for
November to round out the fund
drives for the year. Three social
events: picnics on the fourth of July
and Labor Day, and the Christmas
supper were also discussed brief-
ly and placed on the calendar.
Frank Busch, the newly ap-
pointed fire chief, and President.
Jim Gay, both stressed the need to
imvolve more area residents in the
volunteer organization. The
members at the meeting express-
ed the hope that the canvas plann-
ed for May 20th would prove to be
not only a fund raiser but also a
rallying point for the department as
volunteers discussed with their
neighbors the importance of well
trained firemen irf our community.
The group welcomed three new
members to the meeting. Mrs.
Kathleen West from Lake Bastrop
Estates and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Tacker from Circle D were present
at the meeting.
