THE 2013 WALK TO END LUPUS NOW
& 5K RUN.
On Sunday, May 5, 201 3, The
Lupus Foundation of America -
Texas Gulf Coast Chapter w
hold its annua Walk to END
Lupus Now & 5K Run at Minute
Maid Park. Lupus patients,
family members and spectators
will gather to walk in support of
those affected by lupus at the 5th
annua event. In 201 2, the event
drew over 3,000 participants
and supporters.
Rebecca Kramer states, "This
year's event wil draw over
4,000 Walk/Run participants
and spectators, he 5K Run has
become popular among running
clubs all over the Houston
metropolitan area". "The
additional running participants
have enabled our chapter to
create more new programs and
continue providing the necessary
support services for the lupus
community in the Texas Gulf
Coast Region."
This year, the 201 3 Walk to
END Lupus Now & 5k Run wi
start from Minute Maid Park. For
the very first time, Walkers and
Runners wi run throughout the
downtown area, and then enjoy
a arge family festival.
In addition, the Houston Astros
wil have a benefit that
afternoon, for the Lupus
Foundation of America-Texas
Gulf Coast Chapter, as they take
on the Detroit igers. he event's
highest fundraiser will serve the
first pitch for the game.
Funds raised through the Walk
to END Lupus Now & 5K Run are
used to provide services for
adults and ch Idren living with
upus, their families, and of
course, much needed upus
research.
More than 1.5 million
Americans have a form of lupus,
an unbalanced immune system
that can be destructive to any
major organ or tissue in the
body, including the heart, ungs,
kidneys and brain. In Houston,
there are over 30,000 people
iving with lupus.
