Each of the de.iecled persons named luui cuased the oilier to be

of Houston followed Hm-tsville to do away with the last hopes of the

There they sat, Whitted, Holland, and Holland, consoling eaili

Houston twice during the regular season, yet there they were out
there on the floor playing for the championship, .-Mid. tkere lie was

And to add a last tear to the weeping, it might be mentionrd that
lluntsvillc, the runners-up at the tournament, was not even invi!,"J

unheralded. The director was not going to permit Ihem to participate,
hut Dallas pleaded, Yates pleaucd, and San!one pleaded for them.
As a result they took part in thr tournament—and what a part it was!

BLAMES DIABETBS
0H TOO-EASY LIFE
A 43 per cent Increase lu Ala-
bama diabetes deaths between
lR-T was ascribed to "easy living"
in a recent statement by Dr. J. N.
Baker, state health oflicer.
"Diabetes is often a product of
over-indulgence in certain foods,
and a lack of sufficient exercise,"
Dr. Ilaker said. "In this city of
easy, rapid transportation by auto-
mobile, one usually has to take
exercise deliberately. Very few
person.! get it incidentally iu going
to and returning from tholr work.
"At the same time, people eat
large (Jtlautitles of sweets, which
are excellent foods when used In
moderation, but teud to add
weight when naed to excess. It
is estimated that one-fifth of all
perilous living in the United States
are overweight.
"If these approximately 20,000,-
000 Americans could be properly
brought back to normal weight by
exercise and avoidance of over-
indulgence in fat-buikltng foods,
th<. number of case* of diabetes
might be reduced as much ea 50
per cent, and such a reduction
would raault la tbe saving of about
150 lives In Alabama every year.
Dr. Baker said dlabeU<s deaths
in Alabama numbered 210 m 1W27,
233 in 11)30 and 2."i8 ia IDS!.".. Pro-
visional figures set the 1!>37 dia-
betes mortality at 3l)0, be added.
