MUCH NEEDED TRAINING OFFERED
IT WAS announced, this week, that Sail Antonio is to have
classes in business aud distributive education for Negroes,
a phase of business training offered for ttie first time iu
tiiis city.
These classes are designed to help the small business man,
the merchant, producer, consumer, and to train persons to
render satisfactory and intelligent service.
One of the crying needs of the Negro small business man
is certainly just this type of training.
Barrages of criticism are being continually directed at Negro
fcnsiness—almost all of which comes under the category of
"smaller businesses"—because of inadequate aud slovenly busi-
ness methods, non-Pv's1enee of records, lack of salesmanship,
an,] indifferent bookkeeping, if any.
The cla-sses now available include bookkeeping for small
business, business law, how to sell, how to teach an employee,
sud public relations—certainly practical and much-needed in-
struction. These courses are made possible through the state
department of vocational education, with the local adult voca-
tional education program co-operating.
Houston and Dallas have had these courses for some time,
picl, in those cites, the response has been very enthusiastic, the
Results most gratifying.
It behooves San Antonio business f"lk to take advantage
01 the opportunity now being presented. Certainly the city lias
Xnnch to gain.
