Wedding Anniversary
SEGT'IX, Texas.—Mr. and Mrs.
A. L. Sance celebrated their silver
wedding anniversary with a recep-
tion at their home on Tuesday. May
20. Mrs. Corine Greenwood and
Miss Mae Blanche Houston pre-
sented the guests to the celebrants.
The lawn was beautifully adorned
with silver, greenery and white
flowers. The table was laid with a
white Chinese linen cloth, and a
two-course supper was served. Mrs.
Edna Mat his served the cake, which
was a large white confection eiu-
IsiKsod with white roses and silver
leaves.
MeMiaines C. Anderson and M.
Kirk presided at the puuch bowl,
and Mrs. Mary McCall had charge
of the guest book. During the eve-
ning the guests were entertained
with musical selections, and Mrs.
Myrtle Ellison played the wdding
march, while Mrs. Josie Taylor
sang a nuptial song. Rev. F. J.
Hutchinson offered prayer.
Receiving with Mr. and Mrs.
Sauce were Reed Downs and Mrs.
Ida Mae Lee. They were recipients
of ninny lovely gifts, among them
being 25 silver dollars given l y

entation speech in which lie ex-
pressed his debt of gratitude to his

St. Philip's Junior College Awards
21 Graduates at Exercises, May 31
ON Thursday, May 31, the San Antonio Junior college, St.
Philip' branch, held its final exercises for the school ye;ir
1944-45. The activities, following the joint haccalaureat# atrv-
ices with Phillis Wheatley Senior school, were as follows: On
Monday evening, the freshmen entertained the sophomorog at
the annual prom. The rainbow motif of the dance wag carried
out in varicolored punch and the dance programs. IBt
On Tuesday, May 29, the annual rietta Amos, Claudettt
essay contest was held. The win-
ners were Miss Nova Lee Carter,
first prize; Misses Rutha Mae Jef-
fersou and Margaret Hayes, second
prize; Miss Jessie Harris, third
prize; Mrs. Evelyn Burroughs
Thornton, fourth prize; Miss Er-
nestine Whitley, fifth prize.
On Wednesday evening, May 30,
the graduating class held a very
delightful class night program, cli-
maxing it with a gift of $50 in
cash, to be used in part ppyment
on the verl-typer.
On Thursday evening, the com-
mencement exercises were held at
St. Paul Methodist church, the
Rev. R. S. Mosby delivering the
main address. His subject was
"life's Greatest Challenge" aud he
pointed out to the class that a
dream is the greatest challenge life
can offer—a dream which can fol-
low one through the years and
make him work for its attainment,
for behind every deed which has
l>eon done in this world was a
dream.
Fifteen students received asso-
ciate of arts degrees, three received
diplomas, and three received voca-
tional certificates.
The first honor student was Mrs.
Myrtle Wilburn; the second, Miss
Velma Herron; the third. Miss
Serelia McCaun. Next in order were
Misses Martha Kuykendall, Hen-
Cora Penn, Audrey Stewai
thy Holland, and Lois Marie
