"Texas retailer who want to see
lottery tickets when the games be-
gin this summer need to submit their
license applications by Tuesday,
March 31," State Comptroller John
Sharp announced. •
"We will guarantee businesses that
meet the deadline—and have clean
records--will be able to sell tickets
when the Texas lottery picks its first
winners," Sharp said. "Experience
in other states shows that the first
day of sales is one of the busiest,
and we want as many Texas mer-
chants as possible to join in the fun
and profits from the beginning."
The lottery expects to license as
many as 15,000 retailers in time for
the anticipated July 1 sales of the
first instant winner, scratch off tick-
ets.
"We've tried to make it as easy as
possible for any interested Texas
business to join thelottery," Sharp
said. "All it takes is a $125 fee and
a clean, record-and an application

The Comptroller's office has a toll
free hotline to help retailers call 1-
800-37-LOTTO.
Sharp also said the lottery needs a
Texas logo and "we are asking Tex-
ans to give us their ideas-with the
chance of winning S1,000."
"Everything advertising company
that wants our business must submit
three logo designs, but we think
every-day Texans have some great
ideas as well," Sharp added.
Along with the first place winner,
the lottery will pay $600, $400, $250
and $ 100 to the second, third, fourth
and fifth place winners.
Entries should be mailed to Comp-
troller of Public Accounts: Lottery
