Paid For By Citizens For Better Schools,
R. Cabrera, Chairman.
It is very important that all members of San Antonio's East Side commun-
ity vote for the $49 million bond election being held by the San Antonio
Independent School District Saturday because it is:
• A vote for your children's future.
• One of the best investments you can make to
improve the property values in your area.
Approval of the School Improvement Program
will give the East Side:
• Three new schools: Smith, Douglass-Herff and
Emerson.
• Air Conditioning of the middle and elementary
schools.
• Covered play areas in the elementary schools.
• Renovation and special projects in other schools
as needed, with some improvements in virtually
every school in the district.
Three new schools on the West Side: J. T. Brack-
enridge, Johnson and Barkley-Ruiz will also be
built
The construction created by the building of the
new schools will give San Antonio's sagging econ-
omy a badly needed boost and will make homes
near the new schools more valuable, since good
schools in an area always raise that area's real
estate values.
You can get new schools and air conditioning for
your children by voting Saturday between 7 a.m.
and 7 p.m. Call your child's school or 227-5121 to
find out where to vote. Also call 224-1906 to find
out where to vote and for a ride to the polls, if you
need one.

Pictured is an artist's perspective of the proposed renovation and reconstruction of Smith Elementary School at South Gevers
and Virginia Streets. The school district architects plan to enlarge the facility to almost 53,000 square feet. The mall-type fhool
is to feature covered walkways and covered playground areas and will rely primarily on natural lighting from the sky.
