worker in San Antonio in
1970 where he has held
increasingly responsible

the San Antonio region.
Lindsay holds a
bachelor's degree from
St. Mary's University
and a Master's Degree
from Our Lady of the
Lake.

Hazel Etta Green
Large and impressive
rites were held for Mrs.
Hazel Etta Green at Mt.
Zion First Baptist
Church with Rev. C. W.
Black, officiating.
She was the first, child
born to Harry and Ida
Jones on Oct. 12, 1915
in Lake Charles, La.
She accepted Christ at
an early age and joined
the church. She moved
to San Antonio and
united with Mt. Zion
First Baptist where she
was an active, loyal, and
supportive member.
The decedent married
Isaac Hunt, Sr. and to
this union one son was
born, Isaac, Jr. Later
she married Wilbur
Green, who preceded her
in death.
She is survived by a
son; sister, Ethel
Harrell; great niece,
Tern Womack; brother,
Felton Jones, Sr.; three
grandchildren, other
relatives.
Interment was in Ft.
Sam Houston National
Cemetery.
Arrangements by the
Lewis Funeral Home.

held for Mrs. Valeria
Thompson Thursday at
Temple Baptist Church
with Rev. R. T. Percy
officiating.
The decedent was born
on Sept. 18, 1935 to

Hayes. She married Ollie
Thompson.
She leaves to cherish

A 71-year old East
side man still clings tx>
life Wednesday after he
was shot several times
by his son.
Clifford Childs of the
600 block of
Blueb.onnet remains in
critical condition at
Brooke Army Medical
Center.
Police arrested James
Henry Childs, 34, who is
in Bexar County Jail
under a $50,000 bond.
Police said there was no
motive for the shooting.
Woman shot in back
Police are searching
for a suspect in the
shooting of a 29 year old
woman Tuesday.
Deborah Johnson of
the 500 block of
Jerusalem was shot once
in the back and was
rushed to Brooke Army
Medical Center.
Witnesses told police
that a man and the
victim began arguing.
The suspect left the
scene and returned. He
opened fire on the
woman who tried to flee
when she was shot.

Worth.

in Miss Texas American Pageant
Former San Antonian
Ursula Lawson-Houston
will be one of the
featured entertainers at
the Miss Texas America
Pageant to be aired live
from Ft. Worth,
Saturday, July 14 on
KSAT-TV at 8 p.m.
She will be performing
throughout the show
which will be broadcast
in Texas and 17 states.
Ursula competed in the
Miss Texas Pageant in
1984 and made the top
10 out of 69 contestants
and was invited back in
1986 as featured
entertainter. She went
on to win the "Dream
Girl U.S.A." pageant out
of Los Angeles in 1987.
Miss Lawson Houston
atteneded Sam Houston
High and graduated from
Arts Magnet High in
Dallas in 1984.
Ursula resides in Los
Angeles with her
husband, J.R. Houston
and is signed to Deke
Richards Productions.
She was also the
featured entertainer in
the Miss California
pageant.
She is the lead dancer
in the West coast
production of the
Jamaican musical "De
Obea Man' with Tony
Award winning actress
Delores Hall.
While in Dallas, Ursula
will as much time as
possible with her parents
Roland and June Lawson.

A 33 year old mother
of two was beaten to
death during a violent
struggle with her
husband early Tuesday.
Police were called to
the Quail Creek Village
Apartments where the
body of Theresa Keene
was found
Police said there were
signs of a violent
struggle in the
apartment. Objects were
scattered throughout the
living room and a
television stand had been
broken.
Police said the
bloodstains were on the
walls? furniture and floor
in several rooms.
"He beat her all over
the living room. There
was blood all over the
furniture," said a
policeman.
A fight broke out
around 4 a.m. at the
couple's apartment
which Keene was killed.
Police said after the
fight that the suspect
Larry D. Flint, 34, went
for a walk. Around 8
a.m. Flint walked into
the office of the
apartment manager and
asked her to go with him
to the apartment.
"He told me to waiK
with him, he was very

calm," said Ruth Russell.
"He told me to call the
police. He thought he
had killed his wife."
Russell said the couple
held a barbecue with
friends outside their
apartment Monday. She
had not had any previous
trouble with the family,
she added.
Police found a broken
black jack just inside the
door of the apartment
which was covered with
blood.
Police said the victim
had two children,
Keesharn, 9, and Celest,
7, by a previous
marriage, who were in
another room and did
not hear or see the
fight.
Police said they have
been unable to contact
any of the relatives and
no one has come forth
to claim the woman's
body.

MINISTRY WITH DRAWS
FROM COUNT DOWN
21 FESTIVAL
The director of Black
Aids Ministry, Rev.
Richard Dukes, has
withdrawn his support
from the Count Down 21
Festival which is to
begin July 21.
The purpose of the
festival was to inform
and educate those who
didn't know the problems
of drugs users and how
hard it is for drug users
to obtain rehabilitation
by detoxation.
This program has
changed in that it is no
longer for the help or
reasons intended. This
festival has changed
from non profit to
profit, says Dukes. "I
can not be a part of
that," said Dukes.

Final rites for Robert
(Bunky) Lee Abrams was
held at F. E. Lewis
Memorial Chapel with
Rev. W. J. Nelson
officiating.
A native of Elgin,
Texas, Abrams was born
in 1938 to Everett
Abrams and Georgia
Myers.
He graduated from
Wheatley High School
here. He is survived by
his wife, Mary Abrams;
children, Pamela Mabry
and Albert Curry; six
stepchildren, Troy, Greg,
Popular Sam Houston
High teacher Joyce
Gulley and her son,
Gibran, enjoyed their
birthdays in style with a
