Casing Set in Newton
Ellenberger Test
McCarthy Oil t Gas Corpora-
tion No. 1 B. Newton has set pipe
on top of Ellenberger on the east
side of the Moran basin, a geolog-
ical feature that ha.s been produc-
tive in the shallow series sands
and in the Strawn sand since 1909.
At that time some big gas wells
were found east of Moran on the
Cottle farm and gas lines were laid
in Moran, making it the first com-
munity west of Corsicana to have a
natural gas distribution system.
Located in northwest 50 acres
of section 57, BOH lands, two and
one half miles east of Moran, the
McCarthy well had show of oil re-
ported in the Caddo lime at a
depth unannounced, and test will
be male of the Ellenberger, as
casing has been set at that level,
presumed to be about 4,150 feet.
It is the first deeper drilling off-1
set for an old area, as Texas <"o.
No. 1 Blaekstock went to 3,560
feet in survey 50. French M. Rob |
ertson of Abilene took a 4,0001
acre block in the vicinity u year!
ago, and McCarthy Oil & Ga.-|
Corp. of Houston took the deal for;
its first deep test in Shackelford
county.
If production is obtained, Hill
& Hill, Fort Worth operators,
have an old shallow oil producing!
block of about 700 acres a mile to j
the southwest toward Moran, and
closer to the center of Moran bas-
in, which has been for years be-
lieved a fair shot for some of the
deeper drilling. Roeser & Pendle-
ton, Inc., have a close-in lease also.
South of Moran a mile, Rahan
Bros. No. 1 Lula B. Gray has land-
ed casing at 3,907 feet, and will
continue drilling to test the Marble
Falls, Missi.-sippian and Ellenger-
gfr. A rnble tool operation, lia-
han Bros, have large block of
lea e extending west and north
of Moran and it i not likely that
their one test will determine the
oil po -ibilitie of t.he Moran basin.
