Hawks earn senior league title

After battling back and forth
for the past several weeks, the
Albany Hawks earned the undis-
puted championship title in the
Breckenridge Senior League, de-
feating the Albany team last
Thursday, 9-5.
The two Albany teams have
been leading the league competi-
tion and trading first place posi-
tions during the season, with the
final bout between the two teams
deciding the league champs.
The Hawks, coached by Melvin
Hudman, opened and closed the
game in the first inning, scoring
all of their nine runs.
The Albany team picked up five
runs during the remeinder of the
game, but couldn't make up the
damage done by the Hawks in the
first.
"This win puts us in the driver's
seat for the league champion-
ship," said Hudman.
The Albany team coach, Wayne
Chapman, stated that his team's
season was over after the first in-
ning, having to settle for a second
place finish.
Leading hitter for the Hawks
was Bobby Smith with two runs.
Also scoring for the Hawks were
Steve Hudman, Chris Hargett,
Matt Rogers, Dan Key, Randall
Williams, Mart Riley and Randy
Holson.
Chapman stated that the
Albany team committed seven er-
rors in the first inning, and then
turned around to pitch a no hitter
when the Hawks took their next
six turns at bat.
Bobby Smith was the winning
pitcher for the Hawks, while Jeff
Lenamon, who did not allow any
hits by the Hawks in the final six
innings, was the losing pitcher.
Lenamon was named by Chap-
man as the outstanding player of
the game for the Albany squad.
Scoring runs for Albany were
Lenamon, Carlos Alcaraz,
Salestino Martinez, Juan Rodri-
quez, and Chris Edgar.
Other Albany Games
Albany split games with two
Breckenridge teams during the
past week, defeating the Dodgers
11-10, but losing to the White Sox
9-8.
In the Dodger game played on
Friday in Breckenridge, leading
scorers were Clint Chapman and
Juan Rodriquez with three each.
Carlos Alcaraz and Salestino Mar-
tinez each had two runs and Jim
Bob Hundhausen scored one run.
Chapman was the starting pit-
cher, and was relieved by
Alcaraz.
Scoring against the White Sox
on Monday were Chris Edgar
with three runs and Chapman,
Alcaraz, Marcus Edgar, Lenamon
and Matthew Hise with one run
apiece.
The Albany team maintained a
10-5 record as of Tuesday with
their final game set for Tuesday
night against the Pirates.
Hawks Continue Winning
The Hawks played the Dodgers
from Breckenridge twice during
the past week, including one
make-up game, winning both
bouts.
On Saturday Albany earned a
11-4 victory, followed by a 5-4 win
Oilers to play in tourney as local champs
The Oilers, managed by Billy
Holson, have won the Albany Lit
tie League regular season, and
have earned the right to re pre
sent Albany in the area tourna-
ment.
Albany will host the single
elimination tournament, which is
scheduled for June 20-23.
The opening game will pit
Clyde against Breckenridge at
7:00 p.m. Monday, June 20. Tues-
day night will be a double header
with Albany taking on Anson at
6:00 p.m., followed by Cisco and
Jim Ned at 8:00 p.m. On Wednes-
day, the winner of the Clyde-
Breckenridge game will take on
Coleman, which drew the bye, at
6:00 p.m.
Following that game will be the
winners of the Albany-Anson and
Cisco-Jim Ned games. The cham-
pionship game is scheduled for
7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23.
The winner of this area will
play the Ballinger area champion
at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in
Ballinger.
An Albany Baseball Associa-
tion Board of Directors meeting
has been set. for 6:30 p.m. Monday,
June 27, at Jones Company, to
review the past season and to
select ^11-Stars for the upcoming
tournament, according to K.C.
Jones, association president.
All managers are requested to
attend to make the All-Star selec-
tions. Holson will manage the All-
Stars. Candidates for the team
will be notified, with practice to
begin Tuesday, June 28.
All Little League players, in-
cluding minors, should return
their uniforms to their coach im-
mediately, Jones said. "All por-
tions of the uniform must be ac-
counted for, with the exception of
hats, which may be kept by the
players," he said. "Now is the
time to turn these uniforms in."
All interested parents and
coaches are encouraged to attend
the directors meeting. For more

The regular season ended with
the Indians taking second place
with an 8-3 record.
On Thursday, June 9, the In-
dians defeated the Oilers 16-13,
spoiling the Oilers' perfect
record.
Pitching for the Indians were
Paul Fitzgibbons and Kyle
Bartee. "We came from behind to
win," stated coach Garry Bartee.
"I was very proud of our boys."
Pitching for the Oilers were
Chad McCoy, Alan Hebel and
Lance Cauble.
The Indians out-lasted the Reds
16-4 during a make-up game
Saturday, June 11. Pitching for
the Indians were Shannon
Waters, Matt Birkla and Bo
Wehba.
Taking the mound for the Reds
were Tom Londerholm and Henry
Green, who also hit a home run.
On Friday, June 10, the Raiders
out-hit the Reds 11-9. Pitching for
the winning team were Ben Lina-
han, Kelsey Otts and Leslie Bow-
man.
Reds' pitchers were Alan Kirby
and Henry Green.
Other game results were not
available.
Lifesaving course slated
A senior lifesaving course will
be held at the City Pool beginning
Saturday, June 18, according to
Carolyn Hill, pool manager.
The 20-hour course will cost
$35, and will be held June 18,
June 20, June 25 and June 27.
Participants must be at least 15
years of age, Hill explained.
Instructor for the course will
be Marsha Adams of Cisco.
At least 10 persons are needed
for the course to be taught, Hill
said.

AT&T ANNOUNCES UPCOMING PRICE CHANGES
FOR SOME TEXAS INTRASTATE SERVICES
AT&T announces the following price changes for
some of its Texas intrastate services. These changes,
which more closely reflect the actual costs incurred by
AT&T in providing these services, will become effective
on August 1, 1988.
• SDN (Software Defined Network) Schedule A prices
will be reduced 1.5% during the initial 30-second period.
Schedule B prices will be reduced 16.4% overall.
Schedule C prices will be reduced 4.2% overall.
• WATS 80 service prices for both the initial 80-hour
usage period and the additional usage period will in-
crease 5%.
• The monthly prices for some of AT&T's Analog
Channel Services will increase between $7.05 ^d $25
per channel termination for Analog services.
• The monthly prices for some Dataphone DtgMal Ser-
vice (DDS) will decrease up to $9.65. Other DDS monthly
prices will increase up to $18.35. Overall, AT&T's DDS
monthly prices will increase less than 1%.
The combined effect of these price changes is ex-
pected to produce approximately $3.4 million in annual
revenue, which is approximately 0.3% of AT&T's annual
revenue for all Texas intrastate services.

tariffs reflecting these changes will be filed with the

runs during the Saturday game,
followed by Steve Hudman, Dan
Key and Jose Garcia with two
each. Mart Riley and Richey
Edgar scored one run each.
Riley started the game at the
mound, and was relieved by
Hargett for the second half.
"The Dodgers have the best
record among the Breckenridge
teams and we came through and
put together a good game," said
Hudman.
The Monday game with the
Dodgers went into eight innings,
after the two teams were locked
at four all after seven.
Scoring the runs for the Hawks
were Hargett, Randy Holson,
Blake Picquet and Randal
Williams.
Mart Riley and Bobby Smith
split the pitching duties.
The Hawks held a 12-3 record
on Tuesday, prior to playing their
final game of the regular season
against the White Sox.
Playoff Games
The Hawks will play in the
League Champions Tournament
on Friday, June 17 at Sears Field
in Abilene against the winner of
the Clyde League beginning at
6:00 p.m.
The 13-year-old players off the
two Albany teams will be combin-
ing to play in Junior All-Stars
playoffs, as well as a juniors tour-
nament set for 8:00 p.m. Thurs-
day, June 16 in Scarborough Park
in Abilene.
The Senior All-Stars from
Albany will be coached by Hud-
man, while Chapman takes the
juniors. All-Star action will begin
later this month.
NOTICE
A 14 to 16 foot aluminum v-bottom boat owned
by Kyle Morrison was reported missing from a
creek on the I.M. Chism ranch east of Albany.
The boat was last seen on June 5 and was re-
ported missing on June 8.
