High School News
VICTORIA, Texas — The indus-
trial arts department, George Ba-
tiste, instructor, at P. W. Gross
high school has an enrollment of 111
boys in grades 8 through 11. They
began this year's work with much
euthusinsm and interest.
Having completed their first, proj-
ect In wood work, they Immediately
organized a club iu their depart-
ment, "Tomorrow's Men of Imagina-
tion." Their objective i- t«» aid each
member in the selection and develop-
ment of the most suitable hobby.
They advocate selectiug a hobby
w hich Is socially approved and one
that will give them a great deal
of happiness; then enter into it en-
thusiastically, keepiug in miml that
they cannot get any more out of
it than they put Into it.
The chosen activity need not be
done on a definite schedule nor with
n definite goal of production in
iuiud inasmuch as this preclseness
would probably have a tendency to
destroy some creative ability.
They define a hobby as a favorite
avocation that one engages in, in a
leisurely fashion, which is often
regarded as extreme and should he
treated with mild indulgence as long
as it yields enjoyment.
The officers of the club are:
Douglas William*, president: Julius
Gordon, vice president; Wilford
Washington, secretary; L. Z. Hill,
financial secretary; W. J. Haynes,
treasurer: Clarence Gary, parlia-
mentarian; George Lnngley, chap-
lain: George Wilklni and Albert
pope, sergeant nt arms.
Industrial arts training is but
one of many activities at F. W.
Gross high school. Other activities
also play an important part in shap-
ing the minds of Gross students.,
who are taught sound mental health
practices by livitng them each day.
