Is Consistent Winner
pf Bridge Trophies
Winning bridge trophies has be-
come a pattern in the life of Mrs.
Mnttic Jones, 2222 Hays street, Kel-
ly Air Force base statistical clerk
in ihe materiel management director-
ate.
Recently, Mrs. Jones won second
place in the annual Southwest Tex-
as duplicate tournament. The tour-
ney was sponsored by the Greater
Houston Duplicate Bridge club.
As ji member of the Son Antonio
Acc-IIi Duplicate club, Mrs. Jones
has captured seven trophies playing
duplicate bridge in the last three
years. She sharpens her game through
weekly card playing.
Ace-Ili is affiliutcd with the na-
tional organization of bridge-playing
clul>s.
With her husband as a partner,
Mrs. Jones won her first trophy in
November. 1061. Winning spurred her
on to other attempts, and she has
participated in local, state, regional
and sectional tourneys.
The avid bridge player explains
that 20 or more tables usually play
in a tourney to compete for awards.
She contends: "In duplicate bridge,
cards ure dealt once each session.
All players start even. This way,
chance is eliminated on the first
dealing of cards. The idea is to test
the skill of the player by determin-
ing who can attain the highest to-
tal score."
}lr». Jones averages four tourna-
ments per year. She is looking-for-
ward to the next event ncheduled for
the fall.
