School Running
On Half Time
Beginning Tuesday of this
week, the Mesquite schools
are running - n half time, be-
ing dismissed at noon each
day in order to give the chil.
dren an opportunity to pick
cotton, this Ix-ing deemed
advisable by the board be-
cause of the low price cotton
and the scarcity of pickers.
However, school now opens
at 8;00 in the morning instead
of 0:45 and they are trying as
near as possible to do. a day's
work in a longer half day.
It is not known how long
this will continue, but proba-

Parole For Robert
Hall Recommended
The Mesquiter editor re-
ceived a letter several days
ago from the Board of Pardon
Advisors at Austin, in which
they said that they h a d
recommended to the Governor
that Robert Hall, convicted of
the killing of Winfield Knox,
several years ago, be paroled
to (ieorge Carter of near
Wills Point.
Up to the time mf going to
press, however, the Governor
iiad taken no action on the
recommendation.
If the parole should be
grai'Jted it would seem that
Robert would have his free-
dom permanently, subject to
good behavior.

Corner Drug Store
Closed Wednesday
The drug stor1? on the north
west corner of the public
square, known as the A. O.
Allen Drug Store, but which
he traded for land some
months ago, was closed on a
court order by the Sheriff
Wednesday.
We are not advised at the
nature «f the court proceed-
ings, whether the drug store
will be re-opened or if so, by
whom.
There is talk to the effect
that the troubk with the busi-
ness was brought on, not by
Mr. Allen or by B. A. Scott,
employed to conduct the busi-
ness lately, but bv the man

This year is peculiar in a
political way in Dallas County
due to the fact that a political
campaign is carried on right
up to the date i>f the general
election, which is almost un-
precedented in the history >i
the count}. The Republicans
make no seri« us campaign,
due to the fact that the county
is overwhelmingly Democrat-
ic. hence a Democratic nomi-
nation has been considered
equivalent to an electi nk with
no further caiiijsaigning after
the primary election.
This year, however, the
campaign is still on as the
lesiilt of the mov tnent on
behalf of Allen Scale to have
the v ters scratch the name

Low cotton is the talk of the day.
We all know there must be some-
thing done. We suggest cutting
the acreage. Sow more grain, sucn
as wheat, rye, barley, oats or any
other winter crop. It will help to
bring the price of cotton back to
normal. We do not have all of
this in stock but wiil get it for you
on short notice at a fair price.
Let us help you.
