Hi Hellcats and Hellkittens,
First I would like to change my
zip code. No, this was my mistake,
the right number is: 48183.
The weather here in Michigan
has been out of this world. Norma
and I are going to Chicago for a
few days now that she is feeling
pretty good. I will make it a point
to stop and see Forrest Smith.
I hope all of you enjoyed your
Christmas as much as I did. I sure
get a big kick watching all the
grandchildren open their gifts.
Work is pretty bad here in
Michigan at the present time. But
I'm sure it will pick up after
Christmas.
I hear from Norbert Bruemmer,
our Executive Secretary, that the
dues are coming in pretty good.
Now remember, this is very
important, that we get up to
100% before the convention.
My pension and Social Security
will start coming in March 3rd.
This will make Norma real happy.
I know.
Our pool team is still in 1st
place for VFW 5709.
Now, I better stop for this
month and try to get all the
comrade's letters in the Hellcat
News for this month. Now let's
not stop sending me your letters,
you are all doing a real fine job.
Remember, I can't put it in the
paper if I don't hear from you.
Have a nice day and always keep
smiling.
From Lewin Tedwell: Lewin
Tedwell has had 9000 laying hens
for 15 years (commercial eggs)
but as of last month he went out
of chicken business. Having a
building 30 by 500 feet he decided
to begin to fill it with young
calves. He enjoys the calves much
more than the hens.
From Alvin R. Kruse: Just
mailed in the dues, late I guess -
so am I - later than you think.
I try starting around 4 A. M.,
but it's bills, papers, figures, IRS
rules and regs.
See in the Hellcat News from
time to time, the familar names -
Sam Dwyer, (Fortenberry - never
did get back harvesting milo in
Black, Texas, and a dinner in
Mexico), Luther B. Ray,.R. John-
son - Tays - Etc. Delmar, Schaffer,
how bad was Detrieck wounded? I
keep wondering?
I am small time farming 25
miles NE of Denver, and also now
in SE Montana. Have a sample of
cows and hogs here now. In fact I
got a pilot's license several years
back, but quit the flying, to spend
more time with the hogs - silly
body! Also, still trying to drive in
"convoys" with four combines,
harvesting in Okla., Kans., Colo.,
Wyo., and Montana. The hours
are just as long but somehow I'm
a lot slower.
I've decided one of these even-
ings, I'm going to use the tele-
phone for something, besides or-
dering parts.
Holidays are almost here again -
so may they be Happy.
From John G. Mayer: Those of
you who couldn't make the re-
union in Champaign sure missed a
wonderful time. Everything was
just perfect for the Labor Day
weekend. Even the weatherman
co-operated.
We'd like to extend our thanks
to the hosts, David and Dwayne
and John and Ruth McBride and
"Ma and Pa" Bell. (Tom and
Jane.) They did a wonderful job.
The LaQuinta Motel was ideal. All
the rooms on one floor for all of
us. And the hospitality room was
great. The "Hell Kittens" brought
in more food than we could eat
and Gerry and Carol Wies
brought cheese from Wisconsin.
All kinds of drinks, soda etc. were
provided for us and we each
wound up with a replica of a
Champaign Bottle with the 12th
insignia and date of the reunion.
Thanks again to John and Ruth
for the cocktail and dinner party
and to David and Dwayne for the
brunch at their beautiful homes.
Tom joined the "Cardiac kids"
Simpson and Mayer and wasn't
permitted to do much but Jane
filled in for him and what a job
she did! They had a room at the
motel and that gal didn't sit down
for more than 5 minutes. She was

with us all the time. Wotta Doll!
Who was there? Thought you'd
never ask. Baus; Beeth; Bell;
Br inker; Crowell; David and John
McBride; Mayer; More; Newman;
Plouher; Seiner; Simpson; Sher-
man; and Svensk; along with
Watson and Wies; 17 in all. There
were 15 Hellkittens including
"Wonderful Wanda" Elliot. With-
out her it wouldn't have been a
reunion. I know Bill was proud of
her. You could just feel Bill's
spirit with us. Wanda managed to
get "seconds" on kisses from all
the guys. Wotta sweetheart!
The dinner at the Ramada Inn
was excellent. With Plouher lead-
ing the "Convoy" of 5 cars to the
restaurant it was questionable if
we'd get there in time but some-
how we did. Ray Plouhar showed
the movies of other reunions with
sound and they were great. Ole H.
T. Crowell called just about
everyone in his book in almost
every state in the Union. You
know if you were home and
received the call. Each of us were
able to say "hello".
It was my first reunion and the
most wonderful and memorable
time of my life. Seemed like
yesterday we were together,
rather than 35 years, or rather 37
years ago. Baus, Watson and I
were up till 4 a. m. going back
over Herrisheim. We were joined
about 3 a. m. by Laura Watson.
Guess that's it for this reunion.
Las Vegas, tentative for next
year. So until next issue "May the
Good Lord watch over you." John
G. Mayer.
From Elmer R. Daub: Just a
few lines to say (hi) and am doing
fine. Not much retirement. Since I
retired three years ago, I've been
kept real busy doing odd jobs for

the folks here at the beach.
Hope to see you all in Nashville
in '83 as I have a son who lives out
there. Was out in August, but
don't care much to travel though.
Sorry about late dues, but I
guess better late than never. Sure
would like to hear and also see
some of the old gang.
Paul Fortenberry, C, Sent dues
and the following note: "See Sam
Dwyer and Tarajcak, every year
or so. They both live in El Paso.
Sgt. Luther Ray called me from
Northern Colorado recently. He is
doing fine.
Movelda and I have one daugh-
ter and one son living. Lost our
oldest son in Vietnam.
Also have three grandsons.
They are special. I am retired
from County Judge. Still active in
cattle and grain business. See you
- Signed, Paul.
That's about all for this month.
Am hoping you fellows, or you
Hellkittens will be dropping me a
line once in a while to make this
column interesting. May the New
Year treat you gently, and may
you enjoy good health, the best
blessing of all.
