WARREN E. MAUE, A/17th
Rte. #2-Box#154
Germantown, OH. 45327
Fellow Hellcats:
I know that many of you will possess
the same feelings as I did, when I
received word of the passing of our
Division Commander, Major General
Carlos Brewer. His presence added a
dignity to our Reunions, that will be
greatly missed in the future.
Upon receiving word from Ken
Warnes, September 30, of his death
September 29th, I immediately called
Mrs. Mary Brewer, and offered our
condolence, from me in behalf of the
Association. At this time I learned of
Burial, and Memorial Services. Immedi-
ately sending a telegram to Joseph
Stankunas, 494th, who resides in
Bladensburg, Md., to learn if he could
possibly^ represent the Association, at
the Burial in Arlington, Va. Cemetery,
October 4th. He replied immediately
that he would, and later received word
that he had sent Ken Warnes a letter of
the Services for our General there.
At the same time as I telegraphed Joe,
I wrote Clint Seitz, our Historian, and
William Hawkins, a past Executive
Secretary, to see if they would join me at
the Memorial Services in Columbus on
October 9th, in representing the
Association. Both joined Edna and I, at
the Upper Arlington Church of Christ, in
Columbus, where after the Services, we
met with the family, and offered our
condolence, in behalf of ourselves and
the Association, honoring our Com-
manding General.
Part of the Burial Arrangement, was
to omit flowers, and send a donation to
the American Heart Association, which I
have done.
The name Major General Carlos
Brewer now joins the list of other
members of the Association, who have
crossed the line, and will be
immortalized during our Memorial
Services in Philadelphia, next July, at
our National Reunion.
May our thoughts and prayers go with
all the families of the deceased,
throughout the year.
Respectfully,
Warren Maue
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
RESIGNS
Fellow Hellcats, I am sorry to have to
write this last new item as your Execu-
tive-Secretary, but there are conditions
that warrant it.
I did on November 2, 1976 write a
letter of resignation to President
Warren Maue and received a call this
A.M. (Sunday 11-7) that he had accepted
it and did contact George Moss A/714th
whom I had recommended as my
successor and that George would accept
the job as Executive-Secretary.
I did recommend George Moss for
what I thought of him as a true and
devoted Hellcat and his knowledge of
writing very good articles for the 714th
and the manner he worked to give us a
very successful 30th Reunion and the
Biggest. I did not recommend George
because he was from that good old 714th
Tank Bn., that I was a member of and am
proud to be able to make that statement,
as any one would do.
I am not happy with the Postal system
here, having to send all the dues cards
out 1st class mail and other costs of
mailing, which does dig into the
treasury, also the price of printing the
Hellcat News is greater, even though it
is larger in size, than the other. All in all
I am of a firm belief that because of these
items, I would rather resign and send it
back to the Illinois area and if George
does not have Lake Press who has
printed the Hellcat News for over 10
years do it, and get all the breaks in the
printing bill like John the printer gave
us, then I hope he works out things that
will give us something closer than we
have now.
I have worked very close with Brent
Cardwell on this New Look for the
Hellcat News and he has done a magnifi-
cent job getting it together with a few
misplacements, which is a human error
for the first time. I have had some good
comments and some not so good, but you
always have them.
I have enjoyed working with our Unit
Reps and Officers and I will miss getting
the mail from them, besides all the
wonderful things that were said, of
course you get a few disgruntled ones,
but they are in the minority.
My main reason for writing my
farewell letter is to make sure that all
mail will go to George Moss, Executive-
Secretary, 1017 W. Washington Street,
Springfield, Illinois 67202, Phone:
217-787-1513 as of this Hellcat News. I
will forward any that comes here, but
PLEASE send your dues to George and
let's get on the ball fellas and get them
dues paid, there are a lot of you well over
due.
I will not say Good-bye, as that is cold,
I will just close for now and we will
resume our meeting and get togethers
and anticipate who we will meet new.
Take Care and remember "IT'S
GREAT TO BE A HELLCAT"
