Sam and Marge Pezzano [E-92] with their wedding picture at
the celebration of their 50h anniversary.
Frank Bailey [D]: His sister-in-law writes Frank is not very well.
He is in a rest home and his mind is mixed up most of the time. She
says he looks at his Hellcat News but she doubts he understands
much of it. We are sorry about this and we thank Mrs. Winston
O'Neal, his sister-in-law, for the information.
Sammy "Glick" and Marge Pezzano [E] sent a few words and a
donation to the Association. Thanks, Sammy. He says all of the
Nationals are south and west and it is time for them to come east for
a change. I think that is true. We need to have someone volunteer to
host one in that area. Congratulations to Sammy and Marge on their
50th anniversary.
Eugene Eastham [E] says he enjoys the Hellcat News very much
and we are always glad to hear that.
Clifford Mosser [F] writes he and a friend are wintering in Yuma
and San Diego this year in his 5th wheel camper.
Russ and Doris McCleary [B] say they can't make the Smoky,
but they sent in a donation to the Smoky Mt. meeting anyway. Russ
says his shoulder is doing very good since his rotator cuff surgery.
He says Doris has a mild heart problem so they are walking a
couple of miles a day. Since he has gone from a 32 to a 34 waist, he
wonders if you can get middle age spread at age 77. His birthday is
2 Feb. and Doris is taking him to Davenport, Iowa, to the gambling
boat. Congrats and bring home a bunch of money. Russ also says
he saw where Raymond Hanson [B] paid his dues. He remembers
Ray as a tall blond-headed kid in the old days.
Ed Domanoski [F] writes he will be in Charleston. He says he
had a quiet holiday season. He went to the Alpine village of Helen,
Georgia, for Thanksgiving and it was like being in Bavaria without
crossing the Atlantic. Ed says he hears from Dick Ruble [F] and
Ted Zawacki [HQ-17] often. Ed also sent in a donation to the
Smoky Mt. chapter. Thanks, Ed.
Jim Stone is planning a nostalgic journey with a Galaxy Tour to
be in Herrlisheim on 8 May 1998. Give him a call: 712-882-2205.
Smoky Mountain Chapter Notice: I hope you all have your
reservations into the hotel. If not, you can call the Howard Johnson
Riverfront Hotel at 803-722-4000 to see if they have any rooms
left. But do it immediately. We hope to see you there.
As of January, we have registered for this event: Ted & Estelle
Blostein, North & Evadine Scronce, Dick & Betty Bucy, Leonard
& Almarine Stewart, Carlton & Sarah Figg, Sylvester, Sylvan,
Barbara & Bubba Lumpkin, Tom & Jeanne Conry. Also: Jim &
Mary Jo and Stanley Apple [HQ-92] at Columbus reunion.
Alice Feezel, John & Francis Finley, Ed Domanoski, Thaddeus &
Vicki Zawacki. I also talked with Scott Hall [HQ-43] in Charleston
and he plans to come to see us at the Smoky Mt. Another maybe is
Jim and Bette Stone [D-43] and Norb Bruemmer [D-43].
All golfers please note! If you want to play golf in Charleston,
please drop me a postcard. The golf course wants our numbers so
we can have a tee time. Please let me know. Also, if I have missed
your name, remember this is January.
Don't forget the North Central Chapter meeting with Ray and
Betty Pieterick and Don and Dorothy Mercier, 30 April-3 May.

This is my fourth column and since I have nothing from you, my
readers, I assume it is satisfactory. The Houston reunion is getting
closer, and the committee of Marian Miller, Pat Harness and me
had hopes of having much of the work completed to report at this
time. Our problem is getting others to answer us or to give us
appointments. It is not their reunion so they do not have the same
concerns or desires we do.
I have taken advantage of members of the 119th and asked them
to handle portions of the reunion. They are capable and experienced
and therefore vulnerable to this request. Helping is Gene Curry,
Charles Thomas and Ernie Fitzherbert, and the Buzards have
volunteered to handle the Hospitality Room. The Hospitality Room
fund is not very solvent. We need 30 of you, at least, to send checks
to Charles Thomas for $30.00 NOW. That will be $900.00, which
will help this year and give us a start for 1999. Don't delay or think,
sit down and write the check now. Ernie Fitzherbert and I started
this Hospitality Room many years ago in Florida. Annette and I
funded it and ran it for some years. Bernie and Gene took over, then
the Buzards and Hendricks have most capably handled it for the
past few years. There is a lot of work involved and much time. The
people handling the room do not get much free time to visit. It
would be helpful if some of you would volunteer to take time in the
room to help with the set-up and the cleaning at closing time. Our
vitality is not what it was and your helping them and the Unit will
be greatly appreciated. Please do it today, sit down and volunteer.
I know that word is a tough one, we have spent years using it to
NOT VOLUNTEER. Change your thinking this year and SEND
YOUR CHECK AND YOUR LETTER TO HELP NOW.
Pat Harness met with a set back a few weeks ago. He tripped over
a water sprinkler and broke his ankle. Since Pat is handling
publicity, I am thankful it wasn't a wrist or arm because while we
are sorry it happened, it did not affect his working portions.
Had lunch with Paul Hempfling last week. He is looking great.
Haven't been in touch with Maurice and Rubeye Glover lately.
They have made the reservation work a science. I don't know if you
people ever give a thought to the work and preparation which goes
into your walking up to the reservation desk and getting your
packet. A group of your buddies and their Hellkittens have devoted
many hours of work to prepare and hand you that packet. Thank
them, they have earned your gratitude.
We will have a Sergeant at Arms this year. Louie Lapinski of the
493rd has agreed to head up a detail that we may more control the
entrance to the meeting rooms and perhaps have more of you on
time, especially the first day when the University of Houston's
ROTC will be the Honor Guard and carry our unit flags into the
meeting room. There will also be a presentation, "Building of the
Flag" by the Houston Chapter #513 of the Sojourners prior to the
Memorial Service. It is vital all of you are in the room by 8:45 a.m.
and sitting to keep the crowd movement at a minimum and the
noise level low. Louie will be helping to see this happens. The
committee will work with the hotel so there are enough wait persons
