HELLCAT NEWS
March 1998
for breakfast so you will be able to eat and be seated in the meeting
room by 8:45 a.m.
Our Executive Secretary Bob "the Head" requested us to check
with our widows on their interest in receiving the Hellcat News. It
is hard for some to understand not all our spouses are as enthralled
with the 12th ADA as we, and after we leave them they may not
have interest in us or have other activities. There unfortunately are
17 of these lovely ladies. If keeping records, note the following:
Anne Maias and Stella Griffo have said no, but Pauline Gatz and
Helen Jean have decided they still want to continue the News so
they can follow up on you. For those who live near Addison, IL,
call Pauline at 630-543-9264. She is still as peppy and full of get-
up-and-go as she was when she and Charley were married at camp.
Helen can be reached at 313-284-9491 and lives in Wyandotte, MI.
Susan LeHota, daughter of Margaret, reported she had passed
away, no date given. Helen Jackson wants to receive her News as
do Mary Sands and Winona Madison, Stacey Stevens was KIA on
Jan. 17, 1945. She says she will have an interest in the 12th ADA.
I just received my American Legion and VFW magazines for
December. (OK, why am I writing the March report in Dec.? Dead-
lines to meet and I being away.) The comments by present pro-
fessors and teachers pertaining to WWII, Korea and Vietnam are
absolutely un-American and downright nasty about any service men
who fought and supported their government. This type of teaching
is treason and should be stopped. Freedom of speech is wonderful
up to a point, and that point has been more than reached by their
teaching to make this generation more pacifist than they already are.
We are now supporting a generation of young men who would not
support this Nation under any circumstances and a military leader-
ship bent on tearing down the military might of this Nation under
the belief computers and new weapons will replace men, and I use
the word 'men' as the use of women in the military in combat rolls,
has hurt the Army and the Navy beyond repair.
I do not know what you, my buddies of the 119th, think about
my writing. No one has either read the column or has an opinion of
it, at least not enough to write and comment. Helen Jackson says
she still believes in us and wants to continue her Hellcat News. Geo.
Wirtz [B] has sent in his dues as has Herb Brinklee [B].
Most of you do not have a clue what money Bernie and Gene
Curry spent over the years to be your Rep. I know what I have
donated as Hospitality Room and Reunion Chairman. I and they
and everyone do it because they love the 12th ADA. They are not
looking for rewards, but it would be nice if you indicated you
recognized their contributions.
The Abilene Christian University students donate their time and
effort and what little money they can afford to the 12th ADA
Museum. We need a fund of special money sent to Charles Thomas
to cover the expenses of one student to Houston in 1998. That
covers the Unit dinner, banquet dinner, room, and if possible, some
transportation expenses. When you send in your check for this year
for the Hospitality Room, please add at least $15.00 to cover these
expenses. These young people add so much to our heritage. We
cannot begin to pay them back. We need your checks now for at
least $40.00 to Charley Thomas. All expenses have gone up.
Because I am tied up with Reunion duty this year, Charley Thomas
has been asked to fill in for me on my duties as your Rep. The
support of people who give is always counted on. We take advan-
tage of them. We know they will dig deep once more, they always
have. It is so easy to come to these reunions and have it move
smoothly with no effort to us, we forget the many people who work
behind the scenes to make us comfortable. Remember them.
You RV'ers will have a special place to park at the Sheraton
Astrodome near the Convention Center. The hotel has graciously
given us three more rooms for Dr. Williams to hold his video inter-
views. Doc needs you, and your committee has three rooms
especially decorated for these interviews. Marian Miller has conned
them out of a special tour of the famous Hofeinz Penthouse for you
ladies following your luncheon.
Time to close down this month's column. Other than a few
Christmas cards, you have not been very helpful. Charley, Gene and
Ernie have accepted their assignments. Plan on Houston.

Howdy, Hellcats and Hellkittens! I hope this finds you and yours
in good health and know all of you are anticipating the, soon to
come, warm spring weather. Start making your plans to attend a
spring chapter meeting. Hope you all have sent in the dues for 1998
as they were due Jan. 1. Do it now if you haven't.
So many holiday greetings with notes, will try to acknowledge all
of them in future columns. We thank all who sent holiday greetings.
Carl and Annabelle LeoGrande [B-MED] sent greetings and will be
in Houston, God willing. Would miss them if they aren't. They are
regular attendees.
Received a sad note from Bob Thomas [C]. His beloved wife,
Jerry, died suddenly of a heart attack on Dec. 17. They were at the
Columbus reunion. At that time she was concerned about Bob's
health as he had recently had heart surgery. She was a wonderful,
caring person and we will all miss her. Our condolences to Bob and
their family. You both are in our hearts and prayers.
Received a card from our Past President, Marvel Rowland [56].
We extend congratulations to him and his wife, Ollie, for a job well
done.
Walt Thompson [A], our Service Officer, writes his wheels fell
off in July 1997. Spent nine days in the hospital and two weeks in
rehab. Lost 20 pounds and is now free of the walker and oxygen.
Had congestive heart failure, pneumonia and sleep apnea - synopses
is less stress, low fat diet and exercise. Nurses aides were good but
should show more empathy toward seniors. One knee is worn out
and the other very sore. Regretted having to cancel for the Colum-
bus reunion. A nice Hellkitten had even offered me a ride both
ways. Two sons, Brian and Paul, live in Coon Rapids, so they are
close. Gary is near Deerwood, MN, and not to far from Brainerd
Hospital when his MS flares up. Families are always such a wonder-
ful support group when illness strikes. Continue your regime, Walt,
so you are well in time for the North Central.
Bill Giannopoulos [C] writes Thanksgiving is past and he and
Kay have a lot to be thankful for. Her good eye has stabilized and
they are in reasonably good health. Columbus reunion was great.
Food was good but the company was better. Then visits to our
families and friends in the Chicago area after the reunion. Also
great. Correspondence with our Hellcat family continues. Looking
forward to our granddaughter's graduation from Phcy. school and
her wedding in April. Itinerary includes Houston, Phoenix and Las
Vegas. Happy holidays to all from the Golden Greeks.
Dale and Jane Kline [C], our author and teacher, writes, "Thanks
for all the hard work you do for the 12th. I am still working to sell
Peace Defense, which is the set of Rules for Peace in my book. I
was instrumental in getting the World Federalist Assn. to come up
with a new definition for Sovereignty. This word is limited, like
freedom, by basic moral rules and rights of others. Will now try to
