DINNER
FOR TWO?
No matter whether you had two, fouror
more with you at the Philly reunion, if
you arrived early enough these two
gentlemen would seat you, for a fee.
Joe Fotia (82nd) seems to be all
engrossed in his figures. George
"Goldy" Golden (82nd) hasasmilethat
says "business is good." Our thanks to
these two for the many hours they
spent saying "How many?"
FANTASTIC
PHILLY
Even though the 1977 reunion was
our third one to be held in Philadelphia,
it seems like the city has a magic build-
up to its drawing power. The over 500
in attendance this year topped by far
the previous Philly gatherings in 1954
and 1968. To those who can remember
the '54 gathering, memories recall one
of the hottest summers of all time. The
city, which has been fighting the bad
publicity of the Legionnaires' disease,
certainly proved that it is a good
convention spot.
Members kept coming in and going
through the registration procedures
right on up to the final hour on
Saturday. From California to the East
Coast, members traveled to join their
buddies in another great get-together.
Vince Mancinelli and his reunion
committee did a wonderful job of
insuring a pleasurable weekend for all.
The tours through historic
Philadelphia and Valley Forgefilled the
afternoons with time well spent.
The Marriott Motor Hotel with its
many restaurants, pools, game room
and miniature golf course provided all
the necessities to fill the time in
enjoyment of one's pleasure.
All the association meetings were
orderly and kept to a minimum of time.
There were door prizes galore. All in
all, the reunion timetable of events
went off like clockwork.
The Hellcat News will be reporting
the events of the Philly reunion in
stories and pictures. If you weren't
there, review the details and be sure
that next year's report lists you as
being with us in Minneapolis.

Sorry that this is going to be an
abbreviated column, but it's the same
old story — no letters, no cards, no
nuthin'. I guess it must be due to the
heat and summer vacation time. I hope
that we will get more news for next
issue.
The 31st Annual Hellcat Reunion is
now history and from all reports by my
good buddy Julius Bernstein (Div/Hq),
it was a rousing success, well attended,
and a good time was had by all. Bernie
tells me that a goodly amount of the
members here in the East and in the
vicinity of Philly were missing. Could
the reason be the same as mine? Many
of us cannot leave our jobs at this time
of the year because we are in areas of
employment where we have to service
the vacationing people. I am also sure
that many people who own and operate
their own businesses find it difficult to
leave them at this prime time. Take
note, powers that be . . . maybe a
reunion out of the summer months
could be forthcoming?
Getting back to Bernie, I picked him
up at our John F. Kennedy Airport the
day he arrived from the West Coast.
Also on that flight, I found when the
plane landed, was Bernie Mezey
(152nd). It was a hectic day. Their
plane was a half-hour early and of
course with this a catch. It seems that
due to a SNAFU involving a "people
mover" they had to stay on the plane,
and they did not arrive into the arrival
area until 7 p.m., or almost two hours
after the plane landed. On the way to
dropping him off at his sister's home in
Baldwin on Long Island, Bernie, my
wife and I stopped for an enjoyable
evening dinner at a steak house in
Bellmore. Later that evening we visited
with Bernie's sister and family until 1
a.m. After attending the reunion,
Bernie drove out to my home in
Riverhead and spent the day and
stayed overnight with us. We took him

on a tour of our beautiful and fabulous
Hamptons and ended up having dinner
at an open air restaurant on the waters
in Montauk Point. Montauk Point is
where the land runs out on Eastern
Long Island and you find yourself
making a U-turn at the site of the
famous lighthouse and returning from
whence you came. The next dry land
beyond Montauk Point is Portugal. My
thanks to Bernie for paying me this
visit. We indeed did have a great time
talking of the old days and all those
dear friends we served with.
I hope the next column will be more
fruitful with news about you people out
there. So how about telling us about
the reunion, and maybe what you did
on summer vacation.
One final item — it's dues time! Let's
get them in now without delay.
Remember, "It's great to be a
