HELLCAT NEWS
Nov. 1981
flRiW '
The above picture I believe taken on Tennessee
Maneuvers in 1943. It shows a tank and crew of Co. B 43rd
Tank Btn. [which may have been Co. E 43rd Tank Reg. at
that time]. No. 1 is Lt. Guitteau of Penna, the Commander.
No. 2 is James T. Lynch of Washington, D. C., who now
lives in Venice, Florida and is an active member of the
Gunner. No. 3 is me, John Hecht of Baltimore, MD. I was
the Loader. No. 4 is Eli)o6r Jones of Christianburg, VA,
who was the Assistant Driver. No. 5 is Chuck Bohlender of
Guthrie Center, Iowa, th* Driver.
Andy Migala (B), Port Clinton,
OH, says he enjoyed the Septem-
ber column, with its news and was
glad to hear that Frank DeMarco
had signed up. Wished that Frank
had been at Rochester. Says he
heard from Jo"hn Hecht B/43, and
Bob Gesin 17th Inf., since the
reunion. The approach of Fall is
starting him thinking about head-
ing south to his Florida winter
home. That's the way to enjoy
life, Andy. Hope your fisherman's
luck doesn't desert you.
Mike Toro (B) has finally sett-
led down in his new home (from
Brooklyn to Staten Island). Says
the past 22 months have been
very busy, and he just couldn't
make the Rochester reunion.
Mike, your Hellcat News will keep
coming, with news from your
buddies. Thanks for the note.
Keep them coming.
John Bobcik (B), Fairview, NJ,
sent dues and booster, saying he
retired a year ago, after 40 years
with Celotex Corp. He sees Ben
Franzese quite often. Got togeth-
er with him a few weeks ago and
spent the day at the Jersey Shore
Seaside Heights. Also received a
phone call from Mike Toro (B).
John informs all B Company
members of the passing of Charles
Zimmerman and A1 Bleimier some
time ago. He enclosed pictures of
1st St. Migala, and another o 1
Capt. Hall, Lt. Zick, and Lt,
Guittieure, saying he believes Lt.
Guittieure was killed in action.
Mike Angelicola (Sv), Maspeth,
NY, says "All is well. Enjoy
reading HCN - brings me back a
few years."
A1 Rossen (A), Standish, MI,
sends word that he visited with
Milburn Fowler in March. Found
him ill, but enjoying their visit.
He and Helen celebrated the 40th
wedding anniversary arranged by
their three daughters, one son,
sons-in-law, and daughter-in-law,
and five grandchildren. Harold
and Lola Blomgren (A) of Fridley,
MN joined the celebration. Re-
ceived a surprise visit from Ed
Eaton, after 34 years, and enjoyed
that visit. (Al, we have no record
of an Ed Eaton (44) membership.
If he was a former 12th ADA
buddy, send me his address, so he
can be contacted to join.)
Ginny Einsiedel, wife of Ray
(Sv), Aurora, IL, sent a note
saying "Ray has not been well
since February. He had an inner
ear infection which has affected
his balance and he suffers from
dizziness. He has been going
regularly to Hines Veterans Hosp.
because doctors in Aurora have
not found anything. Give our best
to all the Hellcats. Sorry we
missed the Rochester reunion."
William Joyce (A), Millis, MA
sent dues and note: "Sorry about
the delay. Had the daughter and
family out from California and got
wrapped up with them, going
there, and entertaining. Had a
great summer."
Otis Dillon (A), San Angelo, TX
says he was a member of the 12th
AD when it was formed and went
on Tennessee maneuvers with the
43rd. Wants to hear from any
members who were a part of the
43rd when it was a regiment. Otis
signs his note as a retired Sgt.
Major, and our Executive Secre-
tary penned a 779th Tnk. Bn.
affiliation.
Bob Eastman (C), S. Bewick,
ME: "It's been a hot and wet
summer in Maine, but the gardens
have been wonderful. I enjoy the
paper very much every month.
Have been working for the Naval
Shipyard in Portsmouth for over
30 years. Life is so short, it seems
like yesterday I was riding
through Germany and France in
one of those cold and steel tanks."
Don Elfering (Sv), Kenosha,
WI: "Sorry we missed the annual
reunion, but due to circumstances
beyond our control we had to
cancel out at the last minute. We
do hope we will be able to make
the mid-winter convention. We do
have a new grandaughter born
July 30th, Kelly Donelle. We now
have five grandchildren. Hope you
are all well and happy."
Clifton Hunter (C), Portland,
OR: "...Very good weather out
here on the West coast. Lot of
going and doing. Hard to believe
that summer is passing and that
soon the rain, sleet and cold
weather will be with us, and that
going and yard work will be at an
end. Made the Western reunion in
Tucson, and toured around Ari-
zona for three weeks. Saw my
daughter and grand kids down
there. Couldn't make both get-to-
gethers this year. Maybe another
year."
The 1982 reunion in St. Louis
has been definitely set for July 8
to 11, 1982, at Stouffer Riverfront
Hotel, with John Critzas as Re-
union Chairman. It's not too early
to start making plans to attend
this affair. A large crowd is
expected, due to the many attr-
actions that will be available. A
firm commitment rate of $45.00
for single or double occupancy has
been established, and this rate
will be extended to members for
one or two weeks before, or after
the set reunion dates. The close
proximity to the 4th of July was
selected because you may have
heard that St. Louis has a very
magnificent fireworks celebration
at the riverfront on the 4th,
complete with air show, sky-div-
ers, balloon ascentions, military
demonstrations, boat races, and
many other attractions. Last year
(in spite of the rain) about 800,000
people showed up on the water-
front, and guess where you can
watch it all from...the comfort of
your hotel room at Stouffer's
right on the riverfront. More will
follow as time progresses, but
wanted to start you thinking
about making plans to attend.
By this time, the delinquent
dues notices have undoubtedly
been mailed. Am particularly con-
cerned about those members who
have not responded with dues the
last two years. It will be neces-
sary to drop their names from the
membership roster, thus causing
the discontinuance of their Hellcat
News subscription, and the com-
munication with their former bud-
dies. We don't want this to
happen, so are hoping that every-
one will join up and keep in touch
with their comrades of old. It's a
lasting friendship which we
should all enjoy while we can.
So long till next month. Take
care, and reach out and touch a
buddy.

This will be old news to many
but to me it must be mentioned
again. Every day I get news that
someone else is very sick. I get
the feeling that TIME is too damn
short. Now, I know you people
say: no not me, forget it. It could
be you. I've tried to get through
to many former members of the
44th Tank Battalion but with little
success; because they say forget
it. They don't want to get in-
volved or they feel that no one is
thinking of them. Well, here's for
instance:
Last year we lost a few through
death and again this year. What
struck me the most was a friend
of over 38 years, Dean Arnold.
Back in basic training he was one
of always good cheer, and this
carried right up to the day we
saw him last. That was at the
1980 Owensboro reunion on a
Friday night. He was in my room
with his wife Fay, and a few
others. The next morning he had
left for home early, which was on
