first took to be American tanks returning. But it turned out to be
Panzers - and the S3 Troopers therewith were, mightily irritated with
our friends the Serbs. All of which leads to tales the telling of
which called for the typical Slavic celebration - from which I had to
be toured home. . . ,
For fun, I have been sailing the Chesapeake Bay in a 26 foot
auxiliary;cruising sloop; however, I have found this to be too time
consuming and" I am therefore now in the process of selling the little
ship. As a Major in the Reserve, I was active for a time, commanding
a paper Battalion in a glider Infantry Regiment (without so much as
seeing the inside of a glider); but I found this overly time-consuming
also and I consequently severed, recently, all.connections with the
Army. After having served in the National Guard, and so forth, since
I was 16 years old, this leaves me feeling slightly. strange.. .1 have
had several lon^ visits"with Norman Tallent - my interpreter, who lost
his leg at Herrlesheim and finished the war, like the rest of us as a
guest of the German Government. Norman is now married, having retired
as a Corporal,, and is,a clinical psychologist-in a Hew York Hospital.
I have run into several other men from the 17th, from time to time,
but they have all turned out to be replacements who joined the outfit
after the Herrlesheim fight. Hoping to see you at the Reunion, thanks
again and so. long.- - t , ;
