Editors Corner
I do hope by the time this gets
delivered to all the Hellcats that
are in the areas that were really
hit hard by zero weather and by
the heavy snow storms are in
better shape and that the snow
has really disappeared from the
ground. I know a lot of them
welcome the big snows, especially
if they are in the ski areas, as
they love it. Just make sure you
put in a request with the weather
man to have it all gone in the St.
Louis area come July 8th, as I
would not want to hire a dog team
to get us and all the necessary
things into the Hotel for the
reunion.
One bit of news in regards to
the "ITS GREAT TO BE A
HELLCAT" stickers. I was in
Seattle to get the packages to the
Chapter Reunion Chairman and
while in the U.P.S. getting waited
on the clerk looked at my pack-
ages and asked "what is a Hell-
cat," so I explained it to her and
in back of me waiting to get
waited on was a fellow from the
82nd Airborn who mentioned
about his outfit and he said about
his units action in the war and
mentioned, "I even remember my
rifle number." I thought boy that
guy sure has a good memory. So
you can see some people do ask
What is a Hellcat, and maybe you
someday.
This is always a story worth
repeating. I was in a hardware
store here in Kirkland and wear-
ing my 12th Armored jacket and a
fellow came up to me and said he
was in Div. Hqs. in the 12th. At
that time I got the five dollars
from him and we had a rejuvinat-
ed Hellcat and Inez and I are very
close friends with them. Oh yes so
you are not kept in suspence that
Hellcat was Marlin Pulst and his
wifes name is Doris. If you have
had an experience like that why
not write it down and send it to
me, so I can put it in the Hellcat
News, so everyone can read about
it. These are what make the
Hellcat News worth reading and
how we do get a lot more
members, that have not had any
idea that there was a 12th
Armored Division Ass'n.
I have had a few more respons-
es from some Hellcats who I
wrote to, so we can clear up some
of these addresses marked (M.L.
N.A.) Moved, Left No Address.
Just last week I got a reply from
my old Supply Sgt. George Vin-
cent SV/74th who sent me some
info on Walt Tyler 43rd Band/C/
56th who he said still lives in
Batavia, NY and sometimes in
Texas, so I wrote Walt in NY and
am waiting to see if I get a reply,
I asked that it be forwarded if
necessary. Another fine Hellkit-
ten by the name of Mildred Swice-
good, wife of the late Jim Swice-
good HQ/714th did get us a good
address for Ray Hoots of Win-
ston-Salem, NC. Ray is from
B/493rd (Paul Gossers man. Get
him Paul). It seems that when
Mildreds son and Rays son were
younger they bagged groceries
together in the same food store
might run into the same thing

and they only live 3 miles from
each other now.
I would like to ask a favor of a
lot of you that do send in some
very nice bits to be printed in the
Hellcat News. If you have a
typewriter would you please send
your articles in typewritten if at
all possible making sure they are
doubled spaced so corrections can
be made if need be. This would
speed up getting them in the
Hellcat News and save yours
truly a lot of extra work and more
time to watch them Football and
baseball games on the Boob Tube,
also to get a few projects around
the house done. I never will be a
full fledge typist, but I do use the
hunt and peck system and do not
have to much trouble. Thanks a
million in advance.
Well as all of you should have
read, if not do read all the
publicity on the Big Reunion and
the Chapter Reunions, as well as
all the other get togethers. We
are getting together a lot more
now and I think it is great. I do
remember the first get together
we had while Inez and I was back
in No. Aurora, 111. yet, that little
Italiano Bernie Bombasaro of the
92nd had a good turn out in Joliet
and went way overboard to make
sure we had a grand time, along
with his family who really helped
him out, so we did have a great
time. Then with some help from
my friends we formed the 1st
Chapter known as the Mid-West
Chapter. They have a grand time
planned for this year. It is one
thing Inez and I do miss is the
Mid-West Chapter get togethers,
as we never missed a one of them,
snow storm, or not.
Our Delinquents are going
gradually and the Unit Reps are
working to get that list down. It
will take a lot of work to do it, but
they are doing it. I do wish that
all of you that are not and cannot
attend our big bash in St. Louis to
go to your calendars right now, if
you are reading this column and
mark down on the calendar say
around June 25th and put it in
VET ADM SAVINGS IN
BENEFITS ANNOUNCED
By reducing two Veterans' Ad-
ministration programs the VA
estimates that millions will be
saved toward carrying out the
pledge of Congress and the Presi-
dent.
Congressional legislation signed
into laws by President Reagan,
dental and burial benefits for
some veterans will be cut.
The Savings Involved are:
Dental Care. The period of time
under which former servicemen
could get free VA dental care for
up to a year after leaving military
service has been reduced to 90
days. This reduction will save an
estimated $17.7 million.
Burial Benefits. A burial allow-
ance of $300.00, previously avail-
able to all war veterans, will be
limited to veterans eligible VA
pension or compensation and to
those who die in VA medical
facilities. The estimated savings is
$75.2 million.
VA regulations governing the
administration of these changes
are now being written and will be
forwarded to VA regional offices
in each state as soon as possible.
Capitol letters "SEND DUES TO
KEN WARNES, OR MY UNIT
REP" this way it will save taking
your addressograph plate out and
you missing a copy of the Hell-
cat News, because it is costly to
send you back issues, unless you
want to send an average of 45
cents for each issue you want,
that is what it costs as of now for
postage. It can run up into the
money and that is not fair to those
that remember. O.K.???
This is it and remember "JULY
8, 9, 10 & 11" SEE YOU IN ST.
LOUIEEEEE for the John Critzas
shebang. Don't forget, do not go
out the door without the Frau, or
maybe we had better reverse that
Frau do not go out the door
without the Hellcat. See you there
and don't forget the DOOR
PRIZES.
