HELLCAT N EWS
March 1982
but expected to return for
another operation. That should be
completed by the time you read
this, and as no news is good news
we hope all is well in your
household. We are planning on
seeing you again in Louisville Jim.
Ain't that right?
I found this little verse that fits
right in here, its called "Keep
Going." And its for Morton Jaffe;
Jim Atherton; Tony Sacco; Allen
Horowitz, and all the rest of you
who have a bit of a health
problem of one kind or another
and also for me too.
There's no skill in easy sailing,
When the skies are clear and blue.
There's no joy in merely doing,
Things that anyone can do.
But there is great satisfaction,
That is mighty sweet to take.
When you reach a destination,
That you thought you couldn't
make.
One of these days we will get to
a reunion, but running your own
business it is rather difficult,
signed; Howard & Dot Runyon.
Allen Horowitz was making
slow progress in Jan. so consider-
ation of surgery was postponed.
Bernard Rice said he had a
great time in Louisville, and look-
ing forward to next year.
Thanks to a good friend and
former buddy Ken (Ed) Meade, I
was introduced to the Hellcat
News and the 12th Armd. Assoc.
about 3Vz years ago. Subsequent-
ly I've read your column with
interest and enjoyed an occasional
reference to a familiar name and
face. I remember Clyde Robinson
as a member of the original
Cadre, for Hq. & Hq. Co.-82nd.
Medics, and names such as Ogle;
Finley; Hinkle; Peterson; Meade;
etc:— as follows sufferers during
basic training. Also Caravelli. I
left the 82nd after a relatively
short stay (Nov. 42-June 43) to go
to OCS at Camp Barkley. After
going through hell for a few
minutes plus a few additional
months of waiting in a medical
replacement pool in N.C., ended
up in paradise for the duration.
The last 18 months of my Military
service was spent as Administra-
tion officer in the Surgeons office.
Central Pacific Base Comm. I'm
quite proud to have been a part of
the 12th. A.D. for even so short a
period and I have nothing but
respect for those of you who
contributed so much under such
hellish conditions in the ETO.
May God bless you all and your
families. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely "Tom" Burwell Robin-
son.
Forest Cooley says, Sammy
Masters lives in Denver, Colora-
do. (How about an address)?
Joe Doaks says, Doris had to
change her medicine. Her Doc.
gave her blood pressure pills too
strong.
George Moss still has the 35th
Anniversary pints & charms for
sale at $3.50 a piece. Make your
check payable to the 12th Armd.
Assoc.
Marge Ewing (B) says she
enjoys getting the Hellcat news,
and although she doesn't know all
you guys I write about the names
are some how familiar. The plant
that Marge worked at closed
down Jan. of 81. She picks up
small jobs but there aren't too
many jobs around the area. She is
not lonesome with her kids and
grandchildren around and she's
not ready for retirement. We hear
from Marge at Christmas time. It
seems that we are busy all year
but Christmas never passes with-
out a note from a friend.
Sorry to have missed the
reunion this year. 1981 was not
very kind to us regarding our
health. Last July I was in the
hospital with sugar & heart
problems and than on Thanks-
giving Day I was in a car acci-
dent & fractured four ribs. Frank
said he may make the next
reunion if all goes well. Signed:
Marion & Frank Leone.
Hope to see you all soon,
signed; John & Louise Vitola.
Clyde & Ina Robinson said they
had a wonderful time in Louisville
and are looking forward to seeing
you all next August.
In my letter to you sometime
ago, I believe I told you I was
having heart surgery. But it
didn't help any in fact I had a
blood clot on my lung, and barely
made it through the operation.
I've had nothing but trouble since
the operation. Can't do a thing,
which is hard for me to accept. I
think of the ones in Co. C and
you'd be surprised at how many
you remember. I can't complain
about how I was treated in the
Service. I'm very happy and also
proud to have been in the Army.
If I had a son, I would urge him to
spend at least a hitch in some
branch of the Service. In fact I
would never have seen New York
and all those places otherwise.
The Hellcat News is a great paper
and you folks do a bang-up job. I
look forward to getting it. We
were blessed with great crops last
season. Best corn & beans crops
ever. I'm sort of stuck with a lot
of time on my hands and would
like to hear from some of you
guys from C Co. if you'd care to
write. I go to the VA Hospital in
Des Moines, la. I have always
received the best care there and I
was in and out of there last year
about eight times. My address is
Box 115, Menlo, Iowa, 50164.

From Dayton & Ellen Wright;
Seems like I can't get in a writing
mood anymore. Your last report
brought back many pleasant
memories, of the year I lived in
Albany, N.Y. I think Lake George
is about the prettiest lake I've
seen. I was also amazed to climb
high up on a mountain and find a
beautiful lake. We've heard from
a lot of the gang, letters and lots
of cards. All hope to see us in
Louisville this summer. 81 was
very depressing to us as we lost
three in the family. We hope and
pray that 82 will be better for us.
So happy Allen is improving. As
you, me, and all the other border-
line cases know just what he
things & feels. Ellen and I are
planning on making Nashville-St.
Louis-and Louisville and live it up.
We have a new grandchild
scheduled in April. Looking for-
ward to seeing you all this year.
Want all to remember, the latch
key is out, and the light is on in
the hall. A big "welcome" on the
mat. So you-all come in.
Warm Regards Charlie

Dues and/or News:
Hq. & Hq. Troop: Don Evans—
Don called me in January and we
had a great telecon about the
period at Campbell before he left
us to go to North Africa. He
thought of things in terms of the
heavy armored division, that he
ended up fighting with, so I told
him how being a part of a light
armored division had changed the
92nd. Among many others we
talked about Crocker, Charlie
O'Rourke, Herb Short, Jack Sonn-
tag (and all the great TV shows)
Elmer Amidon, Frank Frobisher,
Ray Pieterick, Ed Brovic, and
DeWayne Sivertsen. He passed
on Andy Kerestes's telephone
number (717) 823-7596. That's in
Wilkes Barre, Pa. (If anyone
going to Stroudsburg for the
Eastern wants to see Andy, they
need to start working on him
now.) Incidentally Don's number
is (215) 489-9080. Bill Hawkins-
Last Sunday (3 Jan.) we had the
pleasure of meeting at John &
Wynn Noland's home (Div. G-2
section) for steak, shrimp, egg
rolls plus all the trimmings and
quite a bit of liquid refresh-
ment to wash it all down. The
Nolands live on a farm about 10-15
miles east of Tampa at Mango,
Florida. We all had a wonder-
ful time. Attending in addition to
Dorothy and me were Dave
McKitrick (Hq. & B), Leroy and
Christina Thompson (B&D), Bob
& Martha Downey (23rd Tank),
Frank and Virginia Costa (D),
John & Betty Rarick (Hq.), John
and Wynn really know how to
spread that Southern hospitality.
We were all sorry that our
friends Bill & Dorothy Bartholo-
mew (D) could not attend. Bill is
confined to his home with an
attack of angina. Our daughter
Virginia visited us over the holi-
days.
It was the most we have
seen her for years. Back in
Columbus in the summer we get
together for an hour or so, which
is nothing like the ten days she
spent here. Bob Downey updated
us on our plans for the Nash-
ville South East Chapter meeting.
We all plan to attend. I'm going to
Columbus in April to work at the
Shrine Circus. Come May we plan
to be in Nashville, if the Lord is
willing.
Bill Lafkowitz—Say hello to all.
I'm going to try and make St.
Louis this year. (Bill, your check
was forwarded. If you don't have
it back yet, suggest you cancel.
Don't feel bad, my booster wasn't
publised yet either).

much. I just talked to Richard
