C. P. CHAPMAN of Wilmington, Del., writes: "What happened to the October issue of the
"Hellcat News?" That's a good question which deserves a quick answer. As we stated in
the first issue, the paper might have to go into a "bi-monthly status until we "build up
the circulation. That's what happened. You can expect the next copy in January, 19^7•
To "build up the circulation, the editor needs as many names and addresses of ex-
Hellcats as he can obtain. Please send any lists or names to him as soon as passible.
Ex-Colonels Hockman (^95) and Wood (Ord Bn) have promised to send in lists of their bat-
talions. The more names, the more subscribers and the more frequency in issues.
The War Department didn't come through on their offer to give the Association 500
copies of the "Speed Is The Password" booklet. However, the WD still has them at the
Pentagon and will send them upon request. Write to the Bureau of Public Relations, War
Department, Pentagon, Washington 25, D. C. and tell them what you want.
For those who did not receive the September issue which went into great details
concerning the history, here are the facts in capsule form: send $5 to the Army & Navy
Publishing Company, Baton Rouge, La., and they will send you the history. Dues of $1
for the Association are alsoi,.being taken by the company and forwarded to the Division
Association treasurer.
Concerning the convention: If anyone has any specific time and location which they
want the convention to be held, now is the time to begin sounding off. The editor will
forward all comments to the executive council for consideration. Incidentally, a lot of
fellows who are attending college have already requested that it be held in the summer-
time, so as not to interefere with their scholastic chores. It looks like the big question
is — "Where to hold the convention?" At least four division associations have held their
conventions in Washington within the last six months.
Now, to get down to the news: Robert B. Boone, Not an ex-Hellcat, wants to trade
patches with Hellcat members. His address is 710 Denby St., San Diego 2, Calif. Bill
Avery has gone back on active duty and 1c now firmly settled at Fort Lawton, Wash., as
Post Personnel Officer. Bill says he's seen a lot of Hellcats pass thru Lawton recently.
Said S/Sgt. Lyle R. Plato, l+95> came thru there recently on his way from Alaska to the
CIC Hqs. at Baltimore. He's a 3 year man.
Harold Yarborough, 17 AIB, is back in G-oldthwaite, Texas. He said he caught one
through the neck and had his right aim paralyzed completely for about three months.
Predicted he would go before the retirement board in December or January. Capt. M. A.
Newman, 82nd, is on duty with the Constabulary, as are a lot of Hellcats. He was the
Diviaion Medical Supply Off., and is doing the same work for the II Brigade. Major Bill
Evans is S-l* of the same outfit.
