tho. Other than that our lives
have just been normal.
As far as my family my wife
and I have raised two daugh-
ter's. Our one daughter and her
husband live in Kokomo, Ind.
and spend their winters here in
Leesburg. Our other daughter
and grandson were kidnapped
and killed Aug. 14, 1974. That
has saddened our life very
much as you would understand.
Getting back to my wife and
I. We will be celebrating our
49th anniversary Sept. 23, 1988.
We are just now selling our
home on the lake in Indiana.
We just read about the re-
union in our V.F.W. magazine,
which we must have been over-
looking before. Since we are
doing a little more traveling
now, we are planning to attend
the reunion this year in Kansas
City. Hope to see you at that
time. - Donald C. and Eileen M.
Riser. P. S. I still like to take a
chance now and then and we
go to Las Vegas and Atlantic
City. We prefer Las Vegas and
go there more often.
Note - Thanks for filling us
in Don, your letter covers a lot
of ground and also both joy
and sorrow. It must be very
difficult to experience such a
loss.
Back to some of the news we
sorted out of the Holiday greet-
ings. Raymond Christy (D)
writes - We have been waiting
for word from you about meet-
ing with a few old buddies. We
are both fine. Raymond has
been pheasant hunting and got
a deer on the run in the neck,
so will have a lot of good eat-
ing. "8 point buck"
I hope you are setting down
as you read this - barring
health, etc. We are going to try
to come to Kansas City for the
reunion next Aug. We will be a
couple of green horns so if you
have any advice please pass it
along, what to wear etc? Ruth
and Raymond
Note - I was a little slow in
answering but did send a letter
to the Christy's and my Wife
filled Ruth in on what to wear.
This general info might help a
few others. One thing that's
very important - get those
reservations in-don't put it off!
Part of what I wrote Ray and
Ruth - I'm not all that shocked
about your planning to try for
the Kansas City reunion, we're
just happy that you might be
able to make it. We are sure
that you will enjoy a 12th

A.D.A. reunion. They are well
planned with a few things for
everyone.
Just prior to the reunion a
schedule of events or program
will be printed in The Hellcat
News. Study this over and see
what's in the works. Most of
the events are well attended
and worthwhile. The choice is
yours - and you take them in if
you want to.
Generally speaking the big
days are Friday and Saturday.
But many things happen on
Thursday. Tours of all kinds
have been scheduled on Thurs-
day. Catalina Island, Universal
Studios, Fort Knox, Jack Dan-
iels Distillery, breweries,
Chruch Street Station, and
many, many other events. On
occasion the area has so much
to offer that the reunion com-
mittee will just set the days as
free time so people can take the
area in as they wish, but that's
rare.
Some people start coming in
on Weds, and it builds from
there. The 43rd Tk. Bn. will
have a C.P. or hospitality room
- as many of the groups do.
Gives people a chance to visit
and relax a bit. We will also try
to set up a Friday Nite Unit
Dinner, this has really been a
good get together for the 43rd.
The Hellkittens or ladies also
have an afternoon luncheon.
And from the feedback I get it
keeps getting better and better.
The guys have a Saturday
morning golf affair or outing
and are looking for more golf-
ers.
The main thing of course is
to say hello to former buddies
and friends, to join together
again, and just enjoy the re-
union. No one is a green horn
at a 12th reunion - they're a
first timer - and we are glad
they come.
After you've checked in at
the hotel or, if per chance you
stay some other place. Check
in with the 12th registration
desk and pick up your envelope
of tickets, program, etc and
sign the 43rd roster so people
can contact you - or you them.
Most of the time it's relaxed
and people dress the same way.
Friday night and the Saturday
night dinner and dance get a
little more fancy - but that's a
lot up to you. Come to have a
good time.
Note - If any of our Hell-
kittens would care to comment
on dress, fire a note this way.
Looking forward to seeing YOU
in Kansas City.
Robert C. Olson (Hq) writes-
We thoroughly enjoyed our first
reunion of the 12th Armored
Division. It was a very mean-
ingful time for both of us. We
were especially glad to be able
to be there with Bob's war time
buddy Joe Verbica and his wife.
He had so looked forward to
going to a reunion together.
We were very impressed with
the lovely accommodations and
the very friendly people that
we met there. The Hell-Cats
and Hell-Kittens are truly a
super group of people. Sincere-
ly, Clarice and Bob Olson.
Violet "Mike" Cavaco (S-C)
writes - Please forgive me for
not writing sooner to thank you
and all the other members of
the 43rd for their comforting
words during my time of loss. I
know Mike would have been
pleased to know he was so well
remembered by his buddies. I
have started to work for the
Tampa Police as communica-
tion dispatcher (radio) was in
training for 6 months (proba-
tionary period) when I pass I
am on permanent. Just taking
one day at a time and all is
okay. Sincerely, Violet Cavaco.
Your dues are okay Vi.
Ebbie Stowers (D) a note -
Ebbie is doing fine. He was in
the hospital a couple weeks ago
but is home now. He tires easily
but other wise is okay. We were
able to fly to Rhode Island the
first of Oct. It was a beautiful
time. He has two sisters there
that we visited. We had all our
family home for Christmas
Eve. Sincerely, Ebbie and Fern
Stowers - Note I'm sure all the
(D) Co. men are glad to hear
Ebbie is still okay. Ebbie has
been in and out of the hospital
many many times, and has
under gone over 100 surgical
procedures since 1945.
Warren Honeycutt (A) writes
- My wife and I met the Earle
Hoyts at square dancing Fri-
day night. Earle was in the
134th, and we have been square
dancing with them for years.
They belong to another club in
Lombard, and I didn't even
know he had been in the 12th
Armored until Louisville. Had
a nice visit. They are going to
K.C. and hopefully we are too.

Steve Pedrett (B) Co. 56th Inf.
Bn. writes - James from one
Hellcat to another. Noticed in
Hellcat paper you need at least
1 - 12th patch. Well I have
this one extra, sent one to
Nicholas Lupo of 82nd Medics.
I've had this one on a extra
shirt. I've still have my whole
uniform intact w/patch etc, so
you are most welcome to this
one. Joined 12th Oct. 42 - Motor
Sgt. for 56th "B" Company.
Steve Pedrett. Thanks Steve
there's a Hellcat not too many
miles from here, Leslie Gustaf-
son (S) of Hampshire, 111. who
had asked if we had an extra
one - Thanks much we will pass
this on to him.
Louis Fitzwater (C) writes -
Sent dues off to Norb, a little
late, no excuse. Sorry we did
not make the reunion this year,
but had to take our vacation a
month early due to our daugh-
ter's availibilty to look after the
wife's mother who is 92 and
lives with us. Other then being
extremely hot we had a wonder-
ful trip. Took two of our grand
children home to San Diego,
CA. From there to Odessa and
Midland, Texas where we spent
a very enjoyable three days
with Archie Town and Earl
Kirkpatrick. It was great see-
ing both after forty two years.
Toured on to Ada, OK and
Memphis, Tenn. where we visit-
ed many relatives. From there
to Nashville, stayed overnight
at Clarksville. Tried to call
Marvin Rhoden and Homer
Hutson but neither was home.
Next we spent three days at
Ernie Helstleys in Sharon
Grove, KY, from there to
Agusta, KY where we spent two
days with Everett Jones "My
Tank Comm." and family.
Finally heading west we stop-
ped at Louisville and after some
