PREsidENT's
Message
I returned home to Decatur, AL, on
April 7 from spending time with the group
of approximately 45 12th Armored atten-
dees at the Western Chapter meeting. It
was a very pleasant and well run affair
hosted by Rita and Jack Winter. We did
question them on ideas and hopes for con-
tinuation of their chapter activity.
Their general hopes and my belief is that
they will stay active for several more years.
Jack had tested the response of local gov-
ernment by writing to the Governor's office and to Veterans Affairs
Offices reporting the planned gathering of WWII veterans and
wives. I have to presume Governor Schwarzenegger passed but the
Veterans Office sent their gentleman to hand carry a message to our
meeting. You should find that copy elsewhere in this issue.
Before arriving in California, I had stopped in to Tulsa and the
Adam's Mark hotel to continue developing plans for our 2005
National Reunion. Ward and Miriam McGill [VP and B/66] joined
with me there as we reviewed potential sites of interest for our
group. John Gallup [SV/23] and resident in Tulsa, also joined with
us and took me for a site seeing tour of Tulsa and the Oral Robert's
University, an extremely beautiful campus. I had also made contact
with another of our veterans living in Tulsa, Tiny McKisick
[C/23],but found him really not well. The ravages of war time and
diabetes have taken a toll.
From Tulsa I flew on to Los Angeles in order to visit with my
sister who resides in Vista with her daughter and son-in-law. Many
of you veterans have survived for 60 years with your honor won
handicaps from service. This dear sister of mine has had to survive
for over 20 years with the loss of her husband and severe personal
handicap as a result of criminal poisoning by a man who wanted to
steal their farm.
He was eventually caught and jailed; his punishment was never
what it should have been. The pansy treatment of such actions by
our justice system has, I believe, weakened this nation to a very sad
loss of security and safety. Will we wake up and recover or slide
deeper into obscurity?
Disobedience to the Ten Commandments of God has brought
down every Great Nation since year One. We need to demand of
our judicial system to proclaim the fact that our USA is great
because it is based upon the commandments of God. We do not
want or need them to reinvent our law.
But to turn to 12th Armored Div. Association law, please note
the following: With the still uncertain but developing fUture of the
12th AD Association, the Executive Council has reviewed the
recent decision on increasing cost of Lifetime Membership. We feel
that this decision was perhaps hastily and incompletely considered,
and moreover enacted at a critical time with regard Jo development
of a viable and vibrant Legacy Family.
We now feel that welcoming and enfolding these younger
families and friends is of such importance as to justify reverting to
the old standard. Thus we have repealed the increase and will
refund that difference to those members who have paid the higher

HELLO FOLKS: Starting the June column of the HCN on Thurs-
day, March 18,2004. Starting so early, I have to put the typewriter in
the hospital for a much needed physical, clean and ream job. We gave
it a gallon of D'Lite last night and all we have gotten done this
morning is carry it to the toilet. Ann keeps asking, "Where is all that
crap coming from?" They will keep it for 2-3 days, giving it a
Colonscopy, MRI, Ct-Scan, Finger job and check for pregnancy for
it has been missing several periods. Hope it gets a clean bill of health.
THE MOVE!!! Let's finish getting the "CLAMPLETTE'S" moved
to Illinois. Part #2 continued: So, they got it going with pack and we
followed them slowly, ugh. They told us to get a motel as truck
wouldn't be done until noon on Sunday - if we were lucky!! So we
took off for a Comfort Inn as they will allow pets.
Sunday breakfast and headed to get truck at noon. Was done
hooray! Out we rolled in good shape, 10 miles east of Cedar Rapids,
backfiring heavily and NO brakes!! We called again and again, rude
people. Another wait of over an hour but inside a gas station, thank
heavens.
A nice mechanic came and put a new belt on or something. The
darn thing ran anyway. He had his two very young kids asleep in his
car. Babysitting I guess. Off and rolling and doing well so Jim had
Pam and I go ahead to get rooms in DeKalb at a motel. We got
checked in and they all pulled in shortly. All of us slept well.
Up early, got pets loaded. Got breakfast and headed to house. Un-
loaded everything with help from Pam's friend Cindy and our son
Greg. Now time to unload fridge over at Pam's. Jim and Pam went
there - the truck to follow with Matt and Rob in it. They got about a
mile from the house and would you believe a double tire BLOW
OUT!!
