road traveled by the 12th A.D.
The great walled town of Rothen-
burg was by-passed as the 12th
came down to take Ansbach. The
1st A.D. is stationed here. The
82nd came all through here and
that Air Field is still here. You'll
remember Feuchtwangen, and I
also looked up Hochstadt when I
was in Dillinggen. C.C.B., C.C.R.
all came through this area along
with C.C.A. it took Dinkelsbuhl. It
was a great day for me as I
walked around the great walled
City. It dates back to 500 BC. I
was in Ochsenfurt where our
mess truck blew up. Markt,
Bibart, Heilbronn, what a day.
From Tauberbichofsheim on the
way to the walled City the 82nd.
lost Lt. Edward Golden; killed by
a German sniper. That happened
at Giebelstadt. The Germans and
their S.S. Patrols sure gave us a
scare when they blew up our mess
truck. The 12th A.D. C.P. Hqs.
advance party. Ochsenfurt is the
last of my trip. Took 4 rolls of film
of near by Kitzingen where the
82nd with C.C.B. had 9 days of
sweating out German counter
attacks on the Main River; also
our C.P. under fire. Also Marki-
breit another old, old, old, City to
visit on the Main. Then my flight
back to the U.S., May 31st.
Don Seedborg brought some of
his slides to St. Louis. Those of
you who didn't see them missed
some great pictures. The first
showing was delayed for a day
because our Chairman had so
much for us to do, and Don
couldn't get us together. He kind-
ly showed his slide to a small
group and they brought back a
few memories. Needless to say we
put out the word and the second
showing was a larger group. We
hope that, "God Willing" Don
brings his slides along to Nash-
ville next year.
Our trip to St. Louis was the
greatest. Fred Caravelli traveled
with us. We left on the 4th of July
and took a leasurely drive out. It
was nearly 1,000 miles. We stop-
ed at the Air Force Museum at
Dayton, Ohio. We also stopped by
to see Huston Smith at Terre
Haute. We hope we talked him
into coming to Louisville this
month. If not we'll settle for
Nashville next year. We won't list
those who attended as they will
be listed on another page. Don
Seedborg took some pictures and
I think he'll send some into the
Hellcat News. I haven't seen Don
since 1945 and it was a real
pleasure to see him again. I look
forward to the time we meet
again, hopefully in Louisville. We
got into St. Louis two days early
but the hotel took us in. It was a
nice place to stay, but there was a
marked difference between the
rooms on the first floor and those
on the 17th. The price was posted
on the inside of each door, and the
cost was the same, but there the
comparison ended. The rooms
were nice though, and clean. The
service was great no matter
where you went. Our Chairman
did one fine job. The dinner was
served on Sat. night with a
flourish. There was no made rush
for tables, as the Chairman had
everything under control. The
business meeting was well attend-
ed on Sat. morning and ample
door prizes were given out. That
went smoother than in the past
too. Everyone seemed to enjoy
the whole program. The 82nd
carried the flags into the meeting
room at the Friday meeting, and
the 92nd did the honors on Sat.
morning. The whole affair was
most enjoyable. Thank you, John
Critzas, and your Committee, for
a big job well done.
Our thanks also to Clint E.
Seitz, Past President. It was a
pleasure to work with you.
Greetings from the little county
of Vilas, N.C. just thinking of you
people. It seems as though our
summer is rushing by far too fast.
We had odd weather this year. In
the spring it was dry for so long
and then the rain. But we still had
good luck with our garden. I'm
writing this while on my job. I
baby sit a very fine young man,
I've sat for him since he was 6
weeks old. He is almost like my
own. He is now 17 months old. His
dad is our County Manager and
his mom is a lawyer. They give
me a good salary and I enjoy him
very much. I love children very
much and have 3 grown ones
myself. Our youngest is only 15
but very grown-up. I hear from
Jack Stout real often. Robert
doesn't like to write and neither
does Doris Stout, so Jack & I
write the letters. Jack is doing
fine, his treatments should be
over soon. We tried to reach Jack
& Doris on the 4th of July, but no
luck. Robert & I are looking
forward to. the Reunion in Louis-
ville. Mable & Robert Whitaker
are planning to come with us. We
were sorry to read about George
Golden. He will be greatly missed.
We are counting the days till we
see you all in Louisville. Signed
Virginia & Robt. Townsend.

fit of the entire member-
ship. Since his report is from
handwritten signatures, it is pos-
sible that names may be mis-
spelled. So, please keep this in

Was real sorry to hear of
George Golden's passing away.
Since he lived close by, I was
looking forward to seeing him in
St. Louis. I made it back to L.A.
from Germany. It was a long
flight. And now back to work,
signed; Don Seedborg.
A note from your Unit Reps.
Sec. . . . Your Unit Rep. entered
the hospital July 30th, with chest
pains. He has been given an
Echogram or something like that
and the rest of the stuff that they
give heart patients. The transport
him in the morning for another
catherization at another hospital.
His last one was about two years
ago. We haven't as yet canceled
out Louisville, but in the event we
can't make it this time we hope
you all have a real good time.
Charlie wants to thank Tony
Trojan, Ed. Kaminski and Fred
Caravelli for their help with the
flags at the General Meeting in
St. Louis.
We leave you with this verse
entitled "You Betcha" I some-
times ponder what I'd be, If I
again were twenty-three. Would I
repeat those silly things, Mad
escapades & foolish flings? But as
I stop and wonder now, My inner
voice replies: "And How."
