If I thought writing past monthly news
letters was a big job, I never really knew
how easy they were to write compared
to this one — this is like getting water
from the well after it's gone dry — as
we've had only one letter from a 134th
man since writing you last. Even put up
a new mail box (thinking the old one had
a hole in the botom) but that did no good.
Fellows, send some information — about
you — your wife or kids — any of the
guys you have seen — even if the
neighbor's dog had pups — anything at
all — just write! Remember the poster
saying "Uncle Sam Needs You"? Well,
"Uncle Mac" needs you, or these colums
are going to be shorter than a mini-skirt!
Our lone letter was from Roger and
Helen Scott (A) (God bless 'em) saying
they had a safe return from reunion and
needed rain very badly; other than that
everything was OK when they arrived
home. They were like all of us at
Springfield — they sure enjoyed the
reunion, and had some constructive
thoughts on next year's get together.
Thanks, much! Helen expresses doubts

Time once again for the monthly
report, so here goes.
I suppose everything and everyone
has settled down since the reunion and
back to normal, and if everyone is like
me trying to get caught up. I have been
working Saturdays and Sundays and 14
hours a day, but I hope to make it one of
these days.
Heard from Ed Tadyche along with
dues from Walt Brokop, Billy House,
Marty Kurtz and dues and booster from
Ed. Again — number Three for him.
Also, Ed forwarded a letter from Bill
Poulos — he is still in the army,
stationed at Ford Ord, Calif. He is now
Colonel Poulos. Congratulation to you,
Bill! Walt Brokop also reported that the
bridge over the Danube which many of
us crossed, has collapsed; I suppose you
all know which bridge he is speaking of.
Received pictures from Gabe DeFabbio
which he took at the reunion, and which
will be in one of the issues of the paper
soon. Gabe also heard from Joe Gray and
Joe's wife, Laverne, has been in the
hospital for surgery. We all wish
Laverne a speedy recovery.
Well, I have reported all I have. All
you guys: let me hear from you so I can
let everyone know what is going on — it
is much easier when I get news.
See you next month.

as to whether they could make it next
year, but look at it this way — once you're
started, what's another 400 miles?
Getting started is always the biggest
part of any trip!
As you all know by now, next year's
1977 reunion is at Philadelphia, Pa., so
start making your plans to attend. To
those of you in the East, and especially
those of you who have never attended a
reunion, It would make you a swell
vacation. Most of those at Springfield
this year said they are planning to be in
Philadelphia. The 12th Armored
Reunion was there in 1968, and we had a
wonderful time then. One of our
highlights was the guided tour around
the City and seeing history of our
country come alive to us. Things like the
Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy
Ross' home, Christ Church, and many
other places with historical significance
made us realize a little more the
greatness of this country of ours. Get the
old sugar bowl down right now and start
your own personal reunion fund
(Bonita's got ours going — started as
soon as she emptied it for Springfield).
Speaking of money — DON'T FORGET
TO SEND IN YOUR 1976-77 DUES -
just a reminder!
Have been busier than ever since we
got home from Springfield, with Tom's
(our oldest son) wedding in Kalamazoo,
Michigan, on July 31st, a garden that
doesn't know when to quit, fruit trees
bending with fruit that needs canning,
and business booming. Will have an open
house and reception for Tom and his
bride when they come home Labor Day
weekend, so still no end to the rush
around here 'cause after Labor Day
comes our County Fair. At the end of
September I think I'll make an
appointment to collapse!
Had a real nice chat by phone last
week with Mrs. Jim (Lee) Mizen (A).
They had hopes to be here last weekend,
but plans didn't work out, much to the
disappointment of all. But, we did have a
friend of Herb Pinno's (A) Gary Nickel
from Ft. Worth) drop in at the store this
week, as he was picking up a load of
hydraulic cylinders at one of our local
manufacturers. Herb had found out Gary
was coming to Ashland and made him
promise to stop to see us. He's promised
that the next time he comes to Ashland
he's going to hog-tie Pinno and bring him
along — that would sure be great. We'll
be looking for you, Herb! Gary says
Herb is busy with harvest, raising a few
cattle, and making the most of life as he
always has. If you're with people who
know someone from the 12, you're
among friends!
Since we are starting a new year (and
since we don't have much else to write
about) we'll discuss membership a little.
Let's all be on the lookout for new
members (or former members who have
let their membership drop). If you know
any names and addresses, please get
them to us so we can contact them. The
suggestion was made a while back that
every present member get a new
member — if we'd work at that a little
we could increase our membership
considerably in a very short time — and
any organization has to have members to
be successful! Every once in a while you
might wonder what became of
old-so-and-so or what they might be
doing — maybe the one you get to join is
the very guy someone else is looking for
— several members have written asking
for information on someone who was
with us during out time in the 12th. Let's
all be working members, and with
combined efforts we ccan increase our
membership.
And now for a little past remembrance
— as I write this it is Sunday afternoon,
August 22nd, and my memory goes back
32 years — wow, what a long time —
1944, so let's bring back some memories!
We're getting ready to leave Camp
Barkley to go overseas — the long troop
train ride to New York — the caution not
to tell Abilene townsfolk when we were
leaving (and yet they knew) — the "mess
kit spoon and raincoat only" physical
exam at Camp Shanks — that lone pass to
New York City with orders not to tell
anyone what division we belonged to
(and yet they knew) — how hot it was
getting on the ship when you were
loaded down with everything you had!
As they say, we were rough and tough
then — we had to be or we couldn't have
survived all of that! Well, enough of
that, but it's memories of things we went
through that makes us a great and
close-knit organization today.
As we close, we repeat — please send
us some news! We're worried! We're
reminded of the worried passenger who
asked "Do ships like this sink very
often?" "No, ma'am", replied the
captain, "Never more than once."
Think Philly — it's gonna be a dilly!

Hi 92nd:
Just received from our Secretary a
wonderful batch of envelopes, 65 to be
exact. I asked for letters and I got them.
Thank you all, but I can't print them all
in one month so be patient, please.
I received a beautifully written letter
from our roving ambassador of the 92nd,
A1 Zimmerman. A1 traveled from
California to the reunion by car, from
there on to New York and back to
California, arriving home in the first
week of September. A1 visited, in person
or by phone the following 92nd people:
Ben and Teresa Miller of Mansfield,
Ohio, Bill and Edna Maggio of Islip
Terrace, N.Y., Jack and Marie Madigan
of Chicago, Jack and Anita Jones of
Anoca, Pa., Nello and Evelyn Roke, Glen
Lyon, Pa., Joe and Bea LeDonne, Des
Plaines, 111., Bomby Bombasaro of Joliet,
111., Dorothy Hawkins and last but not
least Marty Lifgren. I know they all
enjoyed talking to Al. Glad you are
safely home, Al. Rest up for next year in
Philly.
Had a letter from Benjamin J. Miller
"C" thanking an anonymous donor for
paying his dues last year, says he will
keep them up from now on. He had
visitors following the reunion, besides Al
Zimmerman, Lucius Gardiner and
Ernest Conklin stopped to see him. Keep
up the good work, Al, Luke and Ernest.
Received a note about the passing of
Donald H. Peterson "B" on July 16, 1976.
Don had been in the building business
most of his years since leaving the
service. Don left 6 grown children, a 15
year old son and his wife, Mary. Our
deepest sympathy to Don's family.
