Bird hunters have taken
to the fields for another
season of fine West .Texas
shooting following the Sept.
1 opening of dove season.
The report so far is ol
a plentiful crop of jbirds,
but difficult to find due to
the water left in low plac-
es by this year's rains.
A good retriever is an
asset to the hunter this
season, as many hunters
report the loss of
the downed birds in the
thick ground cover.
Remember, sportsmen,
the rules to follow for a
safe and legal season.
First, a hunting license, is
required outside your own
County. Second, clean and
check your gun. Third,
get. permission to hunt
frotfi the land owner and
respect his property, and
fourth, know the bag limit
and hunting regulations of
your area.
With the cool weather
of fall, the fishing reports
Should also be good the
next few weeks. A re-
port comes from Mr. and
Mrs, James C. Baker,for-
mer residents of Seminole,
of catching 92 Black Bass
to 20 inches at Lake Of
The Pines in East Texas
in the month of August.
They were primarily
caught on Hellbenders.
Mr., and Mrs, T.M.Sims
are on a two week fish-
ing trip to East Texas at
this time. We will look
forward to a report of
their catch when they re-
turn, V. H. Glass and
grandson, Lane Timmons,
report good Blue Gillfish-
ing recently at Lake Cham-
pion.

When the dust had clear-
ed from the first high
school football weekend,
Seminole's five prognostl-
cators had already proved
they weren't quite as in-
fallible as they had Hoped,
Dink Aryain, Charley
Bennett and Bob Johnson,
barely broke even with five
right . guesses and five'
wrong ones. Jean F lippin,
Elvis Williams and "Con-
census" were right behind
with. four rig-hi and six
wrong.
"t he board was fooled '
completely by. Seminole's
defeat at - Denver City,
Crane's triumph over Ft.
Stockton and Kerniit'sloss
to Hobbs. Tahoka's. de-
feat by Stanton and the
Monahans win over Ector
were two more generally
missed by the quintet.
Undaunted, they return
to try their luck again
thi'i week, Seminole may
be Mil joying an open date,
but there's no rest for
five such dedicated and
foolhardy fans as these.

rett of Kermit spent last
