Alice and Harold Cockrell
attended the funeral of Medria
Cockrell Ligeon as reported in
last week's paper but I must
add this footnote. Mrs. Ligeon,
79, was the daughter of the
late Will and Laura Cockrell
and lived in Albany and Moran
in the early 1900's to
1916...Funeral services were at
Fredericksburg...
The T. P. Finchers went to a
Homecoming at Mount Calm
last week and Lurline Wallace
Fincher was one of the
returning alumni. They visited
cousins, the J. Bradley Nel-
sons, Mrs. J. B. Rubin and two
cousins Florence and Nellie
Ferguson, who lived at Boogs-
burg in our county as
children...The Finchers also
enjoyed seeing folks at Hub-
bard, Coolidge, and the Roth-
rocks at Weatherford.
We've missed the cheery
smile and handshake of our
good friend Charlie Hemphill
around town for a long, too
long time. Well, according to
Thelma, Charlie is going to get
a rebuilt hip so he can get out
of that wheelchair in which he
has lived for the last five
years, and mingle with his
friends again. Good luck to
you, sir, we're all pulling for
you; keep us posted and we
can let folks'know.
Much sympathy to the family
and friends of Nellie Mims
George, whose death leaves all
of us with an empty spot...
There was a gathering of
kith and kin August 25 at the
home of Beth Weathers where
Agnes and Carl Kunkel of
Snyder wer£ honored with a
birthday dinner. A birthday
cake, decorated with pink "for
the girl" and blue "for the boy"
centered the festive table.
Nineteen were present: other
town represented included Mid-
land* Throckmorton, Eliasville,
Saa Antonio, and Lewisville,
T*xas; also Colorado Springs,
Colorado, and Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma.. .Melba Dagan and
sons L. C. Jr., Steve, Matt,
Tim, and Tom of Colorado
Springs were here at Beth's
last week. Steve and Mat went
on to Tampa, Florida where
Matt will enter Florida. College.
Steve will live and work
nearby to keep him company.
On the road to Brown wood
the past weekend there were
some interesting sights: Stu
dents, likely CJC, were study
ing fossils on a cut in the right
of way; farther on, in a
farming community of milo and
peanut fields, was something I
had not seen in many a year —
a rural church under construc-
tion, nearing completion! Time
would not permit gathering
stories, but something tells one
I passed right by two good
ones...
Don't forget that meeting of
the County Historical Commis-
sion Thursday evening, 6:30, at
the Caldwell office. You'll be
out by 8:00 and this is an
important meeting...Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Vick bought Hill's
Fruit and Vegetable Market
and took over the business last
Friday at 4 o'clock. The Vicks
plan to repair, repaint and
clean up the place and install
much more refrigeration for
their produce...They will stock
the same things that Hill's had.
As for Mr. Hill, he said, "For
the first time in my life I don't
know what I'm going to do
next." He'll think of some-
thing...
Attending funeral service for
a kinsman Gerald Norwood at
Comanche Sunday were Rev.
and Mrs'. W. T. Jones, Mr. and
Mrs. Gerald Weaver and
daughter and Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Edwards and son. Inter-
ment service for Mr. Norwood
was held at Sardis, an old
country cemetery near Coman
che...TheArew;s offers sympathy
to the Jones family at this
time...The Burges from Pasa
dena — Sam Tom, Gloria,
Robbie; Galen and Stephanie —
were here to spend the holiday
with Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Carr
and Mrs. Artie Burge. While
here Sam Tom put up a car
port for his mother...
Pauline O'Brien, Roxie Pal
mer and Anna Bell Duske of
Gorman went to Sweetwater
Saturday to attend the funeral
of their friend Mary Lowers...
C. B. Smith is back at home
from his stay at the VA
Hospital in Big Spring, feeling
much better thank you...
I vow in the presence of
these many witnesses that I
will never believe Mike Parsons
again. He told me the News
works through all holidays,
except Christmas and New
Year's, so I came to work
Monday morning. The place
was locked up tighter than ole
San Quentin. So I went home
and worked...
