team tournament on Thursday
and Saturday with teams en-
tered from Baird, Seymour,
Throckmorton, Winters, (role-
man, Eastland and Munday. The
Lions will plav Munday in the
firM round at 9:00 a.m. Thurs-
day in the new gym.
The final round of the tourna-
mertt will be held Saturday with
the consolation game set for 1.00
p m. and the championship bout
at 2:30 p.m. in the new gym.
Albany will travel to Baird on
Tuesday, December 12, with the
JV playing-at 5:00 p m. and the
Varsity at 8:00 p.m.
Tournament Results
Albany was edged out by
Baird 50-49 in the first round of
the Woodson tourney.
"We lost the game in the last
20 seconds," said Coach Jake
Womack. "We rebounded the ball
better than Baird. but we gave
up a couple of key offensive re
bounds in the fourth quarter."

Lions Host Ranger
The Lions lost a close game to
Ranger last week, falling 44-39
despite a fourth quarter rally.
"Our shooting percentage was
Tower than it needed to be," said
Womack "We were getting great
shots, but they weren't falling
in for us "
The coach commended the
team for their 17-8 effort in the
fourth quarter.
Albany hit 33 percent from
the floor and 42 percent at t' e
line.
The Lions won the consola-
tion bracket of the tournament
with a ttti-54 win over Vernon
Northside.
"We put four quarters of bas-
ketball together for the first time
this year," said the coach. "Our
defense has slowly improved and
our rebounding has too. I'm

An Albany JVII team was
dominated by a strong Haskell
juhior varsity, losing by a score
of 73-8.
Local scorers were Frank
Skiles, Jamie Crow and Brian
Hendley.
Lady Lions take Baird
The Albany Lady Lions played
to a third place finish in the
Ballinger tournament last week-
end with winsoverColehian and
Brady.
The Lady Lions traveled to
Throckmorton on Tuesday to
play the Lady Greyhounds for
the second time this season. Al-
bany lost the game 78-68. Com-
plete results will be published
next week.
The Lady Lions will host
seven other girls teams this
weekend in the Lions Den Invi-
tational.
Albany will play Munday in
the first round on Thursday at
10:30 a m. in the new gym. The
second round will also be played
on Thursday instead of Friday
due to the football playoff game
on Friday.
The third round games will
be played on Saturday, includ-
ing the consolation game at 2:30
p m and the championship game
at 1:00 p m.
The Albany girls earned a 72-
71 win over Coleman in over-
time during the first round of
the Ballinger tournament.
"We played a very good and
intense game," said Coach Paul
Johnston. "Everyone played su-
per defense and our offense did
a great job of coming back to put
the game into overtime."
Albany shot 44 percent from
the field and 76 percent at the
free throw line.

in the game for third place.
"The effort of the girls was
super," said the coach "After
getting in late from the football
game the night before, the girls
played a great game and came
from behind to win."
Albany hit 36 percent on the
floor and 66 percent at the line.
Lions played a
tough team from Wall in the
second round, dropping the game
68-34.
"It was a better game than
the score shows," said the coach.
"Our effort was super - no one
gave up, and Wall is the third
ranked team in state."
Albany hit 30 percent from
the floor and 55 percent at the
line.
