Lara Woods, a Tarleton State
University student from Albany,

rate honor societies in recent
months for her academic

Woods was one of 71 students
: inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma
national freshman honor soci-
1 ety during the spring 1999 se-
mester. University officials rec-
ommend students for member-

'ship at the end of their fresh-
man year.
Students inducted into the
society must have been enrolled
full time at the university and
have earned at l^ast a 3.5 grade
point ratio as freshmen. Only
eight percent of college fresh-
men throughout the nation
achieve this distinction.
The local student was also
inducted into Tarleton's Texas
Alpha Kappa Chapter of Alpha
Chi, the national collegiate
honor society.
Membership in Alpha Chi is
limited to students who excel
academically. Grade point av-
erages must be 3.60 or better.

O'Dell graduates
as valedictorian
Tiarra Dawn O'L),ell, daugh-
ter of1Terry and Donna O'Dell of
Archer (' ity, formerly of Albany,
was the valedictorian at Archer
. City. Miss O'Dell plans to at-'
tend Midwestern State Univer-
sity in Wichita Falls in the fall.
While in high school. O'Dell
was in the, Nat it>nal Honor Soci-
ety and served on the student
council. She was listed in "Who's
Who" for four years and voted
Outstanding Citizen one year.
She participated in U.I.L. ac-
tivities, one act play, track and
basketball,-

ers, as well as those of 1999
Albany High School graduates,
are ready for pickup at The Al-
bany News'. : •'
"Anyone who ordered pictures
and has not picked them up can
clo so at .'any time during office
hours." said Melinda Lucas.
"Most of these packages are al-
ready paid for and are just wait-
ing in the file to be',claimed."
She-added that those who or-
dered team pictures only or who
• requested extra team pictures
may need to wait a few more
days "We couldn't order the
additional group shots until the :
i individual packages, which au-
tomatically include a team pic-
ture as part of the deal, came
back from the laboratory," "she
- explained. ,

In addition to the sports pack-
ages, many of the graduation
photographs of 1999 graduates
have yet, tp be claimed.
Also, there are quite a few
sports packages taken during
the last school year that have
not been picked up.

The objectives of Alpha Chi are
to promote and to recognize su-
perior scholarship and those el-
ements of character that make
for effective service.
Woods, a graduate of Albany
High School, is a psychology
major at Tarleton. She is the
daughter of Jerry and Cathy
Woods of Albany.
Students recognized
Three local students have
been included on the A honor
roll and distinguished student
lists for Tarleton Stat£ Univer-
sity for the spring semester.
Lindsay Parker, daughter of
Donna Parker, was named on
both lists, along with Lara
Woods, daughter of Jerry and
Cathy Woods.
Tim Balliew was listed as a
distinguished student. He is the
son of Wayne Balliew of Albany
and Susan Balliew of Abilene.
Students on the A honor roll
have a 4.0 GPR, while junior
and senior distinguished stu-
dents must have a minimum
GPR of 3.50 with no grade
lower than C.
